Hello, I just recently put down some large particle sand in the chicken yards. It seems to be holding up well even in all of this rain that we have had. It isn't beach sand or playground sand it is the sand put down on the roads in the winter. Very coarse in texture. This is the first time using...
Hello
I have been offline the past few days and caring for the farm through the terrible weather. I just wanted to report back that the ducks all seem to be doing well. I moved them out of their pen and relocated them to another area in case there was something there making them ill. I did...
I used the ivomec cattle injectable but dosed them orally. I have never used ivermectin to deworm poultry before, this is a first. I have fenbendazole drench for goats as well. I am at a loss as to if I attempt to treat for worms or if I attempt to treat for respiratory infection. They are...
I must have missed the duck forum, I will get the video tomorrow. 2 out of 10 ducks, and the youngest at 4 months old, are the ones having the issue. Spent the day separating and deworming. Seems to be a decrease in cough, fingers crossed tomorrow is a better day. I had a friend help me examine...
I have hatched plenty in an incubator without a turner. You can lay the eggs on the side, mark with a pencil, and turn them twice a day. Just do so quickly so that you don't change the temp/humidity in the incubator too much. Good luck!
I have read thread after thread and have narrowed down my duck's issue to two possible illnesses...
Young call ducks sounding as if they have a case of the hiccups. Eating, drinking, and moving around just fine until today, appear to be gasping for air. Eyes, nose, and the general appearance of...
I ordered a dozen chicks from a hatchery. The hatchery did not have Ameraucanas available so I checked out craigslist. My hatchery chicks arrived Tuesday and the others hatched today. I gently broke the news to my husband that I had to pick up more chicks today. He was confused at first but then...
So sorry for your loss.
I am in New England and ordered from Meyer Hatchery in Ohio. The chicks arrived very active and healthy in less than 24 hours. I also bought some from a local farm. Good luck with your future flock.
Can anyone help me identify these chicks? I know what I ordered but I can't tell them apart! buff orps, welsummers, and australorps are self explainatory. I am having a hard time with the buff brahmas, light brahmas, and partridge cochins. I appreciate any help!
Thanks. I have been checking on them all day, it is now 9:45 and vents are still clean. Who knew I would be so worried over the little ones. They all seem to be doing the same chickie routine. They do doze off standing up, they also stretch right out when they lay down. I am expecting 4...

Baby roo?
That was my first thought. If so I hope it is the only roo. I wouldn't mind one but I think the neighbors would be a little annoyed if my whole flock turned out to be roos!
