    My chicks are 6 weeks!

All girls! I've had an Australorp roo in a previous flock. He had a red comb and waddles coming in by 6 weeks. Also, my new flock are also six weeks and don't roost at night.

    Coop and Run Questions

I am currently building our coop. When I had chickens about 6 years ago, I put down a piece of sheet linoleum on the floor and that worked great for clean out. I was in Lowe's yesterday and they no longer sell sheet linoleum, so what is a good alternative to put down on the floor? Also, we will...

Keeping Water from Freezing with No Power

Thanks for your reply! We have plenty of fresh manure. I was wondering if maybe you could use an insulated rubber tire, put the manure in the center with a rubber water bowl on top? Just trying to combine all the options I’ve seen so far.

Keeping Water from Freezing with No Power

I just got 6 new chicks about a month ago. I would like to keep them at our pasture where we have our horses, but there is no power. While this is not a problem now, I know their water will freeze during the Utah winter. I’m just trying to be prepared and get some tips and advice. Thanks!

Does anyone else feel like the Pied Piper?

Glad I am not the only one that thinks it is cute to see all her chickens run across the yard at the sound of her voice My girls are so spoiled. They know when the meal times are at our house b/c they get the "left-overs." I can't go outside anymore without them running up for a treat! They...

Do RiR hen's have eggs earlier than other breeds

My RIR is 20 wks, but no eggs yet. My BO laid her first egg at 20 wks and my RSL at 17 wks.

    Laying in the nest box!

A couple of my girls started laying last week. My nesting boxes are on a small shelf inside my coop and they were laying under the boxes. I took a couple of wooden crates and blocked off that area and now they lay in the boxes

6 RIR who just aren't laying!!!!

My RIR is the same age and is not laying either. She has the biggest, reddest combs and wattles of any of my girls. I have two others that are laying (the same age and younger), but none from her yet.

    Who were your first layers??

Quote: We have an "Annabelle" too She is our BO that is laying.
