Ive had chickens for several years and want to expand to some quail.
Ive read implications that having them cohabitate is not good.

I found a calculation that gave me an idea how much ventilation space required for the volume of the coop, but i cant find it to save my life right now.

well, one of the 4 (3 week old) buff orphingtons has passed.
it was found by my 7 y/o son this morning. the 2 black australorp and the 2 barred rock seem fine
no obvious signs or symptoms of illness noted, or so i could tell.
there looked like an occasional loose poop, which i thought was ceacal...
I have just about finished the coop and am starting the run. I line in northern Ohio and am considering covering the roof to keep the snow out. Is there any reason I should not do this? I'll post pictures when we have the open house for the girls.
Going to pick up my first set of chicks tomorrow. It will be close to 90 deg tomorrow. Will I still need to put a light in the brooder, or will the ambient heat be enough. I will have it set up at night when the temp drops to high 70's and low 80's.
