Hello! we are in East Tennesse with a curent chicken count of +/- 70!
There are curently a whole bunch in the mix pen, one pair of Polish, Black frizzle and smooth bantam Cochins, Birchen bantam Cochins, and 24 young RIR's!
Eggs are avaliable occasionally! and mix eggs are avaliable locally!
I think I'll be there for an hour or less, I can't resist!!! No birds this time though
they're all either just coming out of their molts or broken their feathers
I've made the decision not to put her down, for now.
I can't justify in my own mind to put her down for one isolated incidence. I don't have any intention of ignoring the problem though.
I'm probably going to get prong collar, even though I don't really like them, but the bottom line is to be...
Thank you all so much!
every answer has been very helpful.
I don't think it's a food aggression problem because she sees the chickens more as puppies than anything edible. I think she was licking some of the blood though, but I think it was more of an over-protection deal than food. The chicken...
Well, where to begin?
I have 3 y/o, 110-ish pound, female Great Pyrenees, Wilson, that has never caused any trouble. Her only faults have been that she's a little too hyper sometimes, she jumps, scratches and play bites and when I tell her to stop she doesn't listen a lot of the time. she likes...
I'm gonna be there! unfortunately my birds are going to be a complete mess! I'm entering a black Cochin bantam rooster, a Birchen Cochin bantam hen, and a WC black Polish cockerel. We had to regester fairly early and I thought the Polish was going to fill out nicely by then- but he hasn't. and...
Hi!
I'm looking for show quality or breeder quality bantam Cochins in the following colors-
Blue
Black
Splash
Birchen
Mottled
Of course I'll always listen to other varieties!
Preferably near Morristown or Bean Station Tennessee but I'll drive for a good deal
I'm on a bit of a budget, like...
You're gonna get me in trouble!
the last thing I need is another pen of Cochins!... how many do you have for sale?
I can always build another pen if need be!
Now, how to convince my parents....
I got 5th place!
I was pretty pleased considering one was still a little wet and one had down coming through the feathers because she hadn't preened them enough, so over all it was a good show!
Thanks so much!!
Ok, I was able to spot clean 4 and I just gave 2 a full bath. I think they'll dry out to be nice, if not I can just use two others that aren't my first choices.
I'm pretty excited, wish me luck!!
Red may give you buff-ish offspring, not sure though.
It sound kinda like your hen may be sick, I'd definitely look into that and make sure she doesn't infect the rest of your flock.
I've been at 4-H Round Up all week (it was awesome by the way!!! ) and got home thirty minutes ago. Tomorrow at 8:00 am I have a 4-H chick chain show and sale that I'll be in, and I wondering if it would be better to wash the 6 birds now or not wash them.
I usually wash my birds 2-3 days prior...
I'll probably be going! I may put in a black Cochin rooster if he would just grow his feathers in after his vent was trimmed, but he's due a good molt! Maybe the Polish hen i entered in the spring show, her crest has filled out some more and I'm sure she's do better if she had a bath this...
I have a 4 m/o wcblack Polish rooster, Polish eggs sometimes, and SQ Black frizzle eggs available occasionally but she's taking a break right now
I'm near Morristown
The freezing method doesn't sound too good to me; the recommended freezer temperature is about zero degrees Fahrenheit, and many freezers are higher that that, including my own old freezer. Zero Degrees is not that cold and an adult chicken is capable of surviving at this temperature for a...
