    Dewormer help needed

Hi! One of our hens layed an egg with a tapeworm in it, so I'm deworming her and her pen mate this evening. They both are very healthy looking and acting so I'm caught off guard that she has a load this heavy. I plan a 2 fold treatment with valbazen and zimectrin gold. BUT I can't find...

    Last hope

Good point on the probios -- I hit her with some the same day I gave her the Safeguard - I forgot about that. Poops are clear water squirting out...

    Last hope

Crop feels normal. They're on Purina Home Grown Crumbles. They get let out in the evening to wander a bit while I tend goats. Maybe they get a handful of sunflower seeds tossed in the grass (if the goats will leave them alone long enough to eat).

    Last hope

Little Bit the Buff Orpington is in poor shape and there's not a vet within 2 hours of me that will handle chickens. So frustrating. Backstory -- she was presenting with really runny poop about 3 weeks ago. Messy backside/vent. Acting normal otherwise -- wandering, scratching, eating (just...

    Is this coccidiosis?

Thank you! I just found the liquid at a feedstore 5 minutes down the road. Headed to get it. - Edited to retract my question on the liquid since I just scrolled back in this thread and found the dosing. Thanks!!

    Is this coccidiosis?

Jumping on here because I think I have a hen with this. The only Corid I'm finding at TSC is powder for cattle. Corid 20%. Is this what to use or is there a bird version? Thanks!

Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Good morning! We bought 3 easter egger chicks back in the spring in the hopes that we would be adding 3 hens. I'm thinking we ended up with 3 roos. Would you please take a look and let me know what you think? They are about 4 months old. Thank you!

    Question About Feather Trimming

Same issue here with one of Buff Orps. She's healthy - eating well - drinking well - running around - laying eggs. But always has a poopy butt. I mentioned bathing her and trimming a bit of her fluff down but Husband said it probably wouldn't help because he noticed her poop is just gloopy...

Winter is Coming! Checklists, tips, advice for a newbie

thanks! The vents are over their heads. If it's going to really rain hard with a blowing wind, I'll shut the vents half-way...I can see doing that for snow, too. We rarely get snow...maybe an ice storm once a year. It'll get down into teens but winter is typically a spell of freezing temps at...

Winter is Coming! Checklists, tips, advice for a newbie

More photos. 3 hens - buff orpingtons. The photos are stock photos...we have it set in an area that is blocked from the north and east winds. They are allowed to free range as they please during the day.

Winter is Coming! Checklists, tips, advice for a newbie

Hi there! I need help on the difference between "good ventilation" and "draft free". Our little coop came with two vents (both covered with hardware cloth) that have a sliding wooden cover on them. One is above the nest box and the other is above the door/window. We have left them open...

Little coop, free ranging, and best boxes

Thank You!!! That link was perfect! I had not thought about turning the roosting bars to run the other way. It's an easy mod and I think it will make a big difference for them.

Little coop, free ranging, and best boxes

stock photos of the little coop/run I'm using. The roosting bars are really close to the nesting boxes.

Little coop, free ranging, and best boxes

The title should say NEST boxes...not best boxes. Dang autocorrect! We have 3 buff orps that are about 21 weeks old. They have a small coop with built in nest boxes and a small run...they free range every day. I had to block off the nest boxes because they were sleeping in them. I'm...

    Buff Orpingtons - still guessing

Hi all! Our 3 BO's are about 4 months old now and we're still not sure what the rooster/hen mix is. I'm almost positive Little Bit is a hen. But Cheepers and Rooster Cogburn are still keeping us guessing. The feathers around their heads seem a little more iridescent than Little Bit's...

Handling food allergies & feeding chickens

Thank ya'll! This is such a great forum! I contacted one major feed provider and basically if it contains peanuts, it's on the label. But they cant guarantee it wasn't processed where peanuts are processed or stored where peanuts were stored. So we'll proceed with extreme caution and...
