One of our red hen's (red star, mixed linage) eggs are getting lighter each time she lays. This is unusual, because she's a young bird (only a year or so) and has until now laid dark eggs. The difference has been very noticeable.
Also, she has been showing signs of weight loss. Thin breast...
This are some very beautiful birds! I am pretty interested in getting them; do you have any pictures of the eggs, or more of the birds? I would greatly appreciate it if you could post them! Also, if you ship this Saturday, how old will the eggs be on average? I'd love to maximize hatching...
We've been treating our chickens with BMD soluble, which is pretty much penicillin, for enteritis.
I was going to hatch a couple eggs from our flock, and am wondering if the medication will have any effect on either the fertility of the eggs, or cause any deformations in the chicks. Any input...
We last introduced new chickens into the flock a couple months ago, and got them from a friend who had no history of disease---but it's very likely. I'll be sure to look Mareks up.
I have checked them for that, and have found no signs at all. Will check again.

Mostly just DE, which has worked for our family multipliable times in the past.
Hi everybody; okay, so my chickens are sick. I have no idea how they got to be so bad, because they live in perfect conditions. They free-range, get clean water and coops, are far from being overcrowded, and get a wide variety of feed, grasses, and bugs.
Our chickens aren't laying, is the first...
I heard that feeding a diet of only fruit will slow egg-laying, but these birds eat fruit as choice! They get loads of other feed, thanks for the input, I really appreciate it.
I find it hard to believe that they're laying outside the lot...they stopped laying well before free-ranging completely! I have absolutely no idea about molting...it's possible, but I doubt that all our laying hens would start at the same time! It's extremely confusing to me!
And the heat was my...
We've had a big chicken problem lately; not only have we suffered through something like worms, and Cocci earlier this year, and lost half of my babies, but now our egg production (twenty a day at least) has dropped from 0-1 eggs a day.
We have at least 40 laying hens.
I've tried everything...
