Meet the fluff butts that hatched out of those eggs 😁

    Internal Pip, Internal Pic

The other Day 18 chick has pipped internally! Anybody knows if Silkie embryo beaks will darken before hatch? A 3rd egg set on same day as these 2 and died around Day 14-16 had black skin seen through membrane at air sac; confident it was all or mostly Silkie, I didn’t break it out to have a...

    Internal Pip, Internal Pic

Oh boy! This chick really wants out of that shell. External pip approximately 4 hours after internal pip was observed.

White Silkie with single black feather - colour Qs

He won’t stay still for a proper photograph but I’ll see what I can do! Maybe a screenshot from video… I was hoping he is a Paint! 🥳

White Silkie with single black feather - colour Qs

I recently obtained an approximately 6 week old white Silkie chick that has a single black feather on his back, between the wings. No idea of parentage, breed lines, etc but he does look to be of reasonably good quality and is definitely a purebreed. What are the chances he is a Paint and grows...

Malpositioned embryo and air cell help

It’s day 17 and I got a shocked while candling. I candle every day and was pleased with how the air cell was enlarging towards the fat end and how active the embryo was. This clear area showed up today. Embryo is still alive but barely moving. What’s going on now?

Malpositioned embryo and air cell help

Update: the embryo has detached from the fat end and is now sort of floating in the middle of the egg

Malpositioned embryo and air cell help

To add on, of 17 eggs received only 9 developed with 1 currently looking like it’s dying if not already dead and only 1 or 2 developing closer to normal. I’ve had a reasonably successful staggered hatch in the incubator within similar temperature and humidity ranges.

Malpositioned embryo and air cell help

The eggs were bubble wrapped and placed in a crush proof tin. Purchased from reputable breeder but I certainly can’t rule out mishandling during shipping. Air cells are reasonably small hence I doubt they are very old. They sat in the tin for about 3 days inclusive of shipping before I received...

Malpositioned embryo and air cell help

Do you mean pop it onto turner? I shall do that ;) My first shipped eggs and over half are clears and blood rings. The remaining ones are mostly weirds. I’ll update here on progress

Malpositioned embryo and air cell help

Yep! 24 hrs fat ends up at room temp, 48 hrs fat ends up, no turning in incubator; thereafter, eggs with firmly attached air cells were moved onto automatic upright turner. Last ones were moved about 10 hours ago. This particular egg is the only one left in egg carton and leaned side to side on...

Malpositioned embryo and air cell help

Photo of the egg taken a few minutes ago. Embryo is at the fat end, yolk free floating (here, it’s the darkened area at the lower third of egg). Air cell is where my torch is shining through. Another weird thing about this batch of shipped eggs - blood rings started appearing 24 hours into...

Malpositioned embryo and air cell help

All air cells were near the fat end and the eggs were set upright in egg carton. Somehow, this particular egg’s attached to the side and was no longer mobile when I discovered the malpositioning. Many of the embryos from this batch of shipped eggs are developing in the albumin, just like the...

Malpositioned embryo and air cell help

This shipped egg is about 48 hours into incubation. Somehow, a healthy looking embryo developed at the fat end and it’s air cell firmly seated in the middle (lengthwise) of the egg. How should I position it for the rest of its incubation? My options are upright on a rocker or on its side to be...

Ring of death at day 1-3?

Here’s another egg with a distinctive red ring near air cell. We’re now about 48 hours into incubation.
