In need of some help here. Hatched 3 turkey eggs under a chicken 3-4 weeks ago. Poults doing great. Running around, healthy. Then one seems to lose muscle control. Sprattle legs, head falling back, then Died. A couple of days later a second one did the same
Thing. Only one left. I have more eggs...
Thanks all. I have held my Tom down before, didn't seem to do much good but might be time to try again. I will stop feeding him from my hand and get that broom out. I'm open to all suggestions except killing him.
My Rio Grande tom is turning very mean, but really only against me. He eats from my hand and has always been very tame. Recently, he comes after me, pecks me and will actually chase me. We seem to be in a war and I'm not sure how to stop his behavior. I've tried spraying him with water and even...
Funny you should ask that. The first pic I posted was when I had 8 hens. I now have around 60 with more to come. I built a frame about 2' off the coop floor and well below two long roosts. Then I covered the frame with white board. Every morning I simply scrape the poop into a bucket and dump on...
Mine are out from about a month, but they are turkey or chicken hen raised and protected by the moms. The chicken hens really do a great job. Actually better than the turkey hens
Oh yes! I know Lora well and have several of her goats. I just have my personal Facebook page, but it's mostly goats! It's under Kaye Peery. You should do well when you get ready to sell. Just sold two bucks to someone in Flagstaff and have only two does and a buck left for sale.
Hello, I live up north by the CO border, but go to Albuq and Edgewwod pretty often. I raise nigerian goats, lots of chickens and Wild Rio Grande turkeys. I sell goats and am getting ready to sell some of my turkeys. Welcome
I now have more little turkeys than I can house over the winter. They are Wild Rio Grandes. If I were to sell breeding pairs, should they be from different hens and toms. Do I have to be careful of in breeding like with other animals? How much for a pair, say around 3-6 months old? I live in NM...
Interesting side note...spoke with my friend who had a chicken hen hatch two of my eggs and a turkey hen hatch two. Both within a day of each other. She said the poults being raised by the chicken are much farther advanced than those of the turkey hen.
Thank you. I should have mentioned these babies were hatched and are being hen raised. Later this morning when I checked the family was off the hay bales. I had left the little door open for them and one baby was out and obviously lost. I think I will keep them locked inside for several more...
I have a Rio Grande tom that keeps trying to mate with me and most other adults that he sees. Is there a way to break him of this behavior? Is it seasonal? Thanks. This is my first year with adult turkeys.
My Rio Grande hen hatched 5 poults Wednesday evening. Up on two bales of hay inside a small barn. It is now Monday am. I have barricaded so babies don't fall out, but also put a ramp so she can get down and the babies can run around. She still won't lave the small 4x4 area and doesn't seem to be...
Well, guess that answered my question. I have one tom and two hens, one yr old. They are Rio Grandes. The hens have been laying eggs for at least a month now. One in the kidding barn, so there will be no privacy there; and one two fields over on the neighbors property. Haven't found the nest...
I have a year old Rio Grande tom and two turkey hens. They live together with goats and chickens. My tom seems infatuated with one of my roosters. The rooster is older and not dominate and pretty much stays off my himself. My tom can often be seen out with this rooster circling him, but never...
Is there a market for young ( 6 mos-1 yr) turkeys? I live in northern NM close to Colorado. Raised turkeys for the first time last year and just love them. But, don't really think I could house 20-30 adult turkeys. Curious to know if there is a market for these young ones. I don't want to dress...
Tom was totally unable to stand. Did not look good. Partner and I looked up how to butcher and just finished. My first, but I guess absolutely necessary if I am going to raise critters. Thank you.
Please help. Need advice. Went out this morning to find one of my toms down. Some feathers around. He can't stand. I have chickens, goats, a guardian dog and four wild rio grande turkeys. Two hens and two toms. One tom has always been dominate and several weeks ago I noticed the non-dominate...
