To darken the barring I would mate him with black barred hens and select the best barred chicks and continue to keep black barred in with the blue.
Did he come from white birds?
Whoowho I'm excited. A real swap meet, I don't think we even have those in Alaska! haha
I have one chick thats 5 weeks old and the rest will be 3 weeks old on Saturday. I should be able to tell sex somewhat accurate by the swap meet for sure. Here's one pic of the blue/splash ones but I'll get...
Oh Oh can I come?
I don't mind pitching in for cost either
Here's my list:
Have:
Blue/Splash/Black Silkie x Phoenix Cross Chicks
Genetic Hackle Stock Cockerels (Boatloads I'll probably put some up here on BYC too)
2 Sumatra Buff Wyandotte Cross Chicks (looks like two pullets)
Possibly...
I love the rumpless look. Good Job wilds of pa
Is that first pen going to give you any tufted chicks? I was under the impression that tufts were dominant? I suppose I could go check one of my books.............haha nope I'll wait for your reply
IMO I "announced" on my signature line here and of course the people I asked for genetic advise know what I'm doing but I won't be putting pictures up/selling stock until they breed true and match the standard.
Just be sure to say they are a project up until you get them to a satisfactory point...

You know I was wondering that too. I would think that the blue would be lighter from the splash bred bird vs the blue bred bird but we shall see. Both of these gals are in with my black cuckoo rooster so I'm excited to see what pops out! And Thanks!
Perfect Lavender Reasoning! Just...
The top one is for sure a cockerel as is the bottom left. I cannot see the comb on the 4th pic so no guesses. I'm working with rose combed barred birds and my eyes have gotten sharp.
Although genetically impossible I have gotten barred pullets from a buff cock x barred hen, most likely the...
Yep some have partial vaults! About half are 10 toed but some are 9 and some are 8 haha. I have some black ones also but they are younger. I tell myself every year that I will not hatch until I separate the pens bbbbbuuuuutttttt this year I really outdid myself with 28 babys with unknown...
Kansaseq I'm happy it helped! And yes if you prefer darker splashes it's generally recommended to breed blue to blue or blue to splash. Although there is something to be said for the lighter almost pastel versions of splash.
I'm a fan of them all! Lol give me the pick of 3 BBS birds and I'll...

He asks for other pro's & con's. Not just pics. And I think for those who have yet to get a bird they should hear from others experiances. Not just take one's word as the truth.
Yes to all of the above! I was just looking to start a thread about the differences and comparisons. I...
Katy WOW! Those are awesome looking.
I really like Feran lildinkem!
Also just to clarify the Pros/Cons are in general. In general a flock that is expected to produce 3000 eggs per hatching season vs one that is expected to produce 8 show quality birds will lay better. Also I would argue that...
If your not interested in show quality birds then your buff, white and partridge can go together. I've seen some very nice offcolor silkies.
Your black and blues can go together.
As for lavender if you cross with your blacks you will get f1 all black chicks carrying lavender, if you cross...
Kasey08 both are splash. The lighter one is from splash x splash mating so her blue/black is more washed out than the blue x blue splash.
Thanks SundownWaterfowl, your buffs are awesome as well!
Askjcm2005 Thanks! And I'll check out your thread.
So this is another common question and I wasn't able to find a thread on here about it with some good pictures. Well today I was letting the silkie get some free ranging done and I decided to showcase the difference between my Ideal lavender silkie hen and my breeder cock.
These are just...
So I see people on here all the time asking about how best to breed splash and bbs. Here's my two girls side by side. The darker splash is from a bluexblue and the lighter almost solid color splash is from a splashxsplash. Both are splash and splash birds can any shade in between. Anyway...
Sorry sorry that was rude of me! haha Here's some pics, they are still young yet.
Here's my first silkiexphoenix back in 04? Or 05. She was BBR over white hatchery silkie. She had a decent tail but I don't have any better pics of her since I sold her as a broody.
