I'm worming my flock with Safeguard and have wondered the same thing. I have three dozen eggs sitting in a bowl on the counter that I can't bear to throw in the trash. I considered scrambling/feeding them back to the flock, but haven't been able to make up my mind.
Would it be wrong to feed the eggs back to the chickens while they are on Corid/Safeguard? It seems like such a waste to throw all those eggs away.
Of course, since this is an off-label use, the vet/feed store didn't want to tell me what the withdrawal period for us to refrain from eating the...
Okay, I will be sure to disallow free ranging and will just put it in the water font. It's hard to tell who's sick - they all appear perfectly healthy until they aren't!
Yesterday, I was able to speak with the state lab regarding having a necropsy done. Apparently, everything has to go through a local vet and, obviously, the bird should not have been put in the freezer - a big "duh" on my part. I also spoke with the state vet who wasn't very helpful. I called my...
Thanks for the replies! I will call the state lab tomorrow to inquire about a necropsy. I live more than 6 hours drive away so I'm curious as to how this will work. In the meantime, I put the latest hen in a trash bag in the freezer.
Last May, I started 15 black star pullets from Murray McMurray hatchery. They were vaccinated for Marek's and fed medicated chick feed for 20 weeks. At about 16 weeks, I divided my coop and put the pullets in one side with sole access to the run and left five hens from my old flock (that had not...
We bought an inside-mount VSB doorkeeper complete with the VSB door, sensor, and timer from Foy's back in July 2008. It worked flawlessly until this past summer, it began opening and closing at the wrong times until it just stopped altogether. We changed batteries several times and called Foy's...
Can I swap my two bantam cochins and gold silkie for yours?! My silkie has been broody since March and my cochins are always going broody, but they are SO cute. I am constantly taking them off the nest.
I have used both the heated platform for the galvanized water fonts and the plastic water font with the heated base. I don't have electricity in my coop, but just use an extension cord in the winter. I prefer the plastic one although it is a royal pain to fill, especially when the wind is...
My Cornish Roasters are just over two weeks old and my husband is demanding that I move them out of the garage to the chicken tractor:-) He hates the smell. I change the shavings every two days and they still stink.
I buy the Cornish roasters rather than Cornish X because of the elevation where we live. The roasters grow ever so slightly slower, but it makes a difference according to everything I've read.
This is the beautiful Black Hills of SD where I am fortunate to live! I have a dear (and patient!) husband, two beautiful children, my wonderful father next door, a big yellow lab, 14 hens, and one lucky rooster.
Here is the shed before and after renovation. We put on a new...
