So I have just placed a new nesting box in the coop for my hens and they have kicked all of it out. I have made a lip in front to prevent this and they still manage to do so. I really want them to lay in it but I'm afraid that they won't since they continue to kick the hay out. What do I do?
Okay, well give it until 5:30 on this morning coming up (24 hours since it has pipped) and see if any progress has been made. It is 11:20 pm here so I am going to bed. I will be back on in the morning to check on you and your babies
Also, you should avoid opening the incubator at all costs. The humidity needs to be just right or one of two things could happen, there could be a lack of humidity and the chick could get stuck to the membranes of the egg and will be unable to get out or 2, there could be too much humidity and...
It seems like it tried to come out before the blood vessels dried up. The blood vessels that have supplied the chick with blood while in the egg have to dry up before it comes out. The chick is supposed to absorb all of the blood out of them along with the yolk before it is ready to come out. I...
Now I'm getting worried, I've read all of the horror stories that come along with these special babies. I am going to try everything I possibly can for him/her, I'm not one to cull them just because it's different.
However, I'm getting a little scared because it is the only one cheeping super...
I have a 3 day old buff orphington chick with a scissor beak. I'm pretty sure she can eat and drink and she's not getting picked on by the others, any suggestions?
This is what he looks like currently. He is breathing very fast and occasionally will chirp. It's been hours since he's hatched, but hasn't "fluffed up" any, he still looks like he just came out. I don't know if you can tell by this picture about his neck, but it's the best I can do.
My chick pipped 2 days ago, I decided to back off and let nature do what it was supposed to and see what would happen. Well, today he still made no progress, so I decided it was time to intervene. When I started to help, the membranes were not bleeding and he smelt kinda foul. After I continued...
Update on baby chick:
We managed to fix her leg and wrap it with vet tape, however, whenever I got up and checked on her this morning, she wasn't doing so well. I picked her up and she was completely limp, wasn't chirping, and seemed to be gasping for air. I removed her cast from her leg and...
Okay, so I looked around and judging from the pictures and posts that people have put on here, it seems to be a slipped tendon. I'm going to get some vet tape today and try to treat it with that. Will put an update later
