They began laying late fall the very first year and laid steadily, even thru the winters. I don't recall ever not getting any for more than a couple months during a molt.... They seem fine, they are getting layer pellets. Their eggs have always been super hard. They aren't laying anywhere...
My turkey hens are 2 and 3 yrs old and quit laying in Oct. which I didn't think much of as the chickens cut back too, and since this winter I hadn't used heat lamps the chickens kicked back into laying early March....now here it is nearly May and my turkeys haven't produced a single egg.... 1 is...
Are there any hatcheries in New England or close to, that sell sexed Olive eggers? I know they are mixed breeds so not sure if a hatchery would carry them.
I have mostly bantams (10 of which are roosters) So I can't breed olive eggers myself. I would like to aquire some Marans and Olive eggers...
I have been wanting to get hens that lay blue/green/olive colored eggs however it seems that all the birds I have been offered or seen, lay colored eggs that are so pale its barely noticable that they are colored at all. Where can I find a local/semi-local (I'm in Maine) supplier who's hen's...
OK phew!- I thought they were sick or something. Glad they finally know who's boss. Raised them from day olds but they went thru this phase where they would bite us- HARD! and twist like they meant business. Sometimes I'd bleed, we had to assert ourselves and threaten them with a roasting...
Did you ever find out what was ''wrong" with your turkey hen?...I have 4 female turkeys (no toms)...one by one my turkey hens started doing the same thing...they'd be walking then just lay flat on the ground sometimes with their wings out and make a gaspy noise. It's winter and cold out- so when...
I really wanted a male... but dont want to get chicks again as myluck they'd all be female again and cant afford to feed a whole flock of them (we dont eat them they're pets). So I wonder if I could find someone with an adult male thats people freindly.... I'll have to search.
I will have to post some pics...though i fear i may have all females...you'd think out of 4 chicks ONE would've been male...bummer!!!!
I have gotten 5 eggs in the last 3 days. 1 one day, and 2 yesterday and today so at least 2 are hens! if I walk out there and find 4 eggs one day well, then...
We have 3 Narragansettes and a Slate we got this spring. I know heritage breeds mature slower than industry breeds- but how slow?? Ours are about 7-8 months now...NO one has gobbled yet- but I have seen one ''puff'' and strut once or twice- and get into a little spet with a rooster. Their heads...
I have spring narragansett turkeys about 8 months old now and its only 20 degrees here in Maine and I found an egg yesterday in their coop, Im pretty excited as I never had turkey as pets before (and was thinking I had all toms) so the egg was a surprise. Also my spring bantams are all laying...
Tried clicking on MSU links in one post but they did not work.
here I have quoted other BYC posters:
copied and pasted from MSU site:Dissolve the fenbendazole product in one cup of water. Mix this solution well into the feed and give to the birds as their only feed source for one day...
Ok. So I am overwhelmed right now and worried about getting my birds all treated in time and appropriately with the right amounts of the right stuff...blackhead/worms/coryza??? I'm finding it takes forever clicking on links and posts only getting tidbits of info on each thing- a new med is...
I have 4 tom turkey that we are keeping as pets, they're about 6 months old now and free range with bantam chickens during the day, at night they (and a male guinea) reside in the chicken coop in their own section separate from the chickens.
2 of the turkey are acting strange- at first I...

yes, well I HAD 22....!
They all get along so why not? LOL They free range just fine together with 20-something hens. They really don't crow much at all...first thing in the am, but other than that they are super quiet too.
First time going to Augusta one.
I've one of each: ALL BANTAM ROOSTERS
Black silkie, golden laced cochin, mille fleur d'uccle, and a silver penciled rock
They need to go ASAP. I have 15 roosters and am moving.
I have 4 pet Narragansette turkey that are about 3 months old....snoods are all small, necks are just starting to turn reddish with a hint of blue/gray? but heads are still kind of sprinkled with tiny feathers. No one has attempted to strutt or display. I was hoping for 2 of each sex but I think...
I have 40 free ranging bantams, 4 guineas and 4 turkeys...the chickens put themselves in at dusk meanwhile the guineas and turkey refuse to go in and sleep way up in a pine tree despite my efforts to keep them in their coop... i put grain in at night and they go in, scarf it all up- then go...
