I just stand outside and wait til the wild Mallards get bored and fly off, or will put my ducks in the pen. Do you do anything to keep the wild ones away?
Thank you so much for the responses, I'll keep her on this same regiment. They will not be happy to be separated, but they'll get over it.
Not sure what it is, but having ducks has been so dramatic these past few months:
1) Lost my drake (found him, he wandered off .5 mile away)
2) Drake hurt...
She moves around, in fact walking/hobbling around the yard (stopping from time to time to lay down). She is able to stand and preen as well. No swelling in the leg that I've seen/felt when comparing the healthy leg and hurt leg...
Hi guys, think my female sprained something while jumping off the deck (it's about a foot high). Either that or the drake was too rough with her and somehow injured her back, hip, or leg. She was laying about 6 inches from the deck when I found her with the drake, so that's where my assumption...
I live in the 'burbs and don't want ducklings this year as last year they were too much work and too loud to have that be an annual thing.
Is there a "right" time to take my duck's eggs after she started brooding? She started brooding today. Appreciate the help.
Thanks,
Zach
Cool, thanks for the advice. Question about your earlier point and watching to make sure it doesn't become Bumble - I know the extreme nature of Bumble, but what are the slightest/earliest signs that it is Bumble?
Ah very true. Ok, so Epsom salt water - is there a "recipe" for that? Warm water + Epsom salts, how much salt to mix in? Appreciate the help, never soaked a foot before
My Mallard began to slightly limp yesterday evening. Had a duck which had a thorn in its foot about a year and a half ago, I looked around and do not see a thorn or something else which he would have stepped on. It doesn't appear to be early signs of bumblefoot, any precautionary measures I...
Another question I've been thinking about - my female has a full clutch, probably like 10-13 eggs she is nesting. What is the best way to make sure I only keep a couple ducklings? When she is off the nest should I replace a bunch of her eggs with store bought (non-fertilized) eggs? I would...
Great to know. Question about the drake - it is just so mysterious that he up and vanished. Is it possible for him to fly with a partially-clipped set of primary flight feathers? There are no predators near me, no sign of feathers or otherwise, it's just so mysterious, which makes it that much...
There are surprisingly none available on Facebook. Just to be sure, I've had both for two years and they are fully domesticated. But in no way should I let her go at a lake with other ducks, right? On one hand she would be able to have that companionship with other ducks, but she obviously is...
The hen has officially been without her mate for over 24 hours. I am guessing the eggs are about a month or so from hatching.
It's heartbreaking - each morning and every time she isn't brooding she is calling for the male. Do I just deal with her doing this and wait for the eggs to hatch?
I can't keep the ducklings long term (live in a suburb of Boise, ID). So what are my long-term options? Keep a single duck, get rid of her, or necessary to get two?
I've had two domesticated mallards for about 2 years. Both have their primary flight feathers partially clipped.
Yesterday while I was at work, the drake either found a way to fly/get out or something got him. There are no signs (feathers, blood, etc) that he was attacked and no signs that a...
