My Mallard began to slightly limp yesterday evening. Had a duck which had a thorn in its foot about a year and a half ago, I looked around and do not see a thorn or something else which he would have stepped on. It doesn't appear to be early signs of bumblefoot, any precautionary measures I should take?

Figure if he keeps weight off the foot, it may help, so for now I've put them in the side yard, where they have room to walk around but not enough to roam, and he stays in the pool most of the time.

See attached pics. Thank you!

Keep an eye on those spots they may develop into Bumble.

You could try soaking in warm Epsom salt water to see if that helps. He may have stepped on a rock or hole and caused a slight sprain. On of my Runners was limping and had some slight swelling on one of her feet a few weeks ago. I soaked and kept watch and she finally got over it in less than a week. We live in the mountains and rocks are everywhere they just appear out of the ground so I think mine hurt their feet walking or Running over them. Always a possibility of a bee sting too this time of year.

Probably what happened. Hope the duck feels better soon!

Just don't let him drink the water Epsom salt is also a laxative I usually use a small bucket and sit both feet and legs down into it just easier to do it that way. then just hold onto them, for at least 5 min. 2 cups full per 1 gallon of nice warm water.

Cool, thanks for the advice. Question about your earlier point and watching to make sure it doesn't become Bumble - I know the extreme nature of Bumble, but what are the slightest/earliest signs that it is Bumble?

Swelling, scab will form and turn black it’s always best to get ahead of it so hopefully if there is any bumble starting. You can also take some clear iodine after soaking and spread over the places that are slightly raised.

what about using betadine instead of iodine? Why does it have to be clear?
