    6 week old chicks gender?

She is an Easter Egger, I have one hen who is very similiar so I am guessing that is her chick. The rooster was really pretty too so I am glad she got nice coloring. Also thank you everyone! It would be great if we are all correct, 2/9 is not bad!

    6 week old chicks gender?

I have 9 chicks that hatched out about 6 weeks ago. I know it is early but I wanted some opinions on possible genders. Some I have an idea others I am not sure. They are an Easter Egger, Leghorns or EExLeghorn crosses. 1. I think Pullet, also looks like a Leghorn I think straight comb its...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

just wanted to give an update on my broody leghorn and her 9 chicks. she is a great mama! I did try and let her take the babies out today to free range with the flock but Mama hen wasn't having anyone even look at the chicks, she attacked if someone showed any interest. I put her and the...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

How funny that we both have Broody Leghorns that hatched chicks at the same time! How did your hatch go? So I know for a fact there were 9 eggs and 1 didn't hatch. I have 9 chicks! no other hens had access to her nest and she was done laying before I moved her so I have no idea what happened...

    Broody hen hatching

Edit: This was suppose to be a thread and I can't figure out how to delete it. The new BYC mobile is confusing me Hello! I wanted to share my experience and hopefully hear some other stories on broody hatching. So I recently had one of my leghorn hens go broody. Hubby said I should let...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

So my chicks ended up all hatching a day early! It was wonderful and my Leghorn hatched 8/9, the last one was rotten. She is such a good first time mama! although I wish she wouldn't try to hide them from me, she gets a little better each day I sit in there with her. Mine are Easter Egger and...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

So one of my white leghorns went broody. I watched her for a couple days before deciding to let her sit on some of our eggs. Knowing my flock, I seperated her and her eggs into their own 'mini coop' in the run. My hubby made a gate door over a nice big calf hutch that sits in the shade. She...

    Easter Egger club!

I am no expert since I haven't had my chickens for even a year but I have an EE roo and a Leghorn roo (he was supposed to be a hen). I wouldn't call my EE roo mean or aggresive, he has never tried to attack a person but once he got bigger than my leghorn he did declare dominence. My leghorn...

    The EE braggers thread!!!

Fawkes Ginger Blondie Chleo. She is the only one not laying and they are 7 months, I am not sure why and she is obviously being bred.

    EE mix

I am new to this so I didn't realize they bred them for generations like that. They lay amazingly so the leghorn idea makes sense. Ginger's eggs are slightly greenish compared to my others but I am not sure if it is really green enough to have had any brown. I am going to hatch chicks from...

    EE mix

Is there anyway to tell what produced my EEs? Meaning what breed of chicken was mixed with Ameraucana. What I mostly want to know is if my EEs have any brown laying genes? Not sure if it is possible to tell.

    Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hello! I feel like it hasn't been very cold yet but despite my efforts one of my pullets has a little bit of white on the edge of her comb, frostbite I think. The temperatures have been all over the place this year! Congrats on the chicks!

    What is this?

Okay, thank you so much guys! I didn't know they had saddles so I will keep an eye on her and maybe look into that if it gets bad. Also you can't really tell but before the ruffled feathers her back feathers are all flattened that is what made me think it might be from him.

    What is this?

Hi guys! So one of my hen's feathers look messed up. All the rest look perfectly normal. Is she okay? I feel like maybe she is my rooster's favorite? My other hens look completely fine but I know he has no tact and none of them like when he mounts them. Feedback would be great so I can...
