I found a picture on this forum of about six barred rocks at about six weeks old and I see what you mean about seeing them altogether. The males were lighter and combs more developed and legs weren't as dark. My son and I were reassured by the image that our barred rocks were pullets. We did...
This is Pepper. She (or he) is the one who does the stare down with Nutmeg. He went at her with his feet first once that I saw. S/he usually will yield to him. The other barred rock with have has a slightly bigger wattle. Pepper has a shorter tail and little spiky feathers on her head. Pepper...
we picked them up. I said to them after I counted, we only ordered eight. She said, we sometimes give extras in case something happens to them. I said they aren't tipsters are they because we can't have them in my neighborhood. SuRe didn't say no, she said sexing in 90% accurate.
oh shoot! How...
thank you, they sure arepretty. I heard immature roosters could be like that. We have a sweet little buff Orpington named Ginger that follows my daughter around and sits in her lap. But the other easter eggers aren't super friendly, just Nutmeg.
okay. I am hoping hoping hoping they are female...
Thanks all. I put an ad to try to rehome Nutmeg as roosters are prohibited in my neighborhood :(
I sure hope he's the only one.
We ordered eight pullets and they threw in two extra. I said, they aren't throwing in two roosters are they, they wouldn't do that to me would they? It just so...
thank you. did you see the barred rock pics above? I wasn't able to get very good ones. I will try again.
So is there any chance Nutmeg is a pullet? I read on here that the patchy coloration usually signifies cockerel in this breed. The comb showed a couple of weeks ago and the little almost...
The barred rocks we have look almost the same but one of them faces off with Nutmeg they both seem to have curly tails. I will be fainting if they gave me three boys.
This is Nutmeg. We heard Nutmeg make some roostery sounds and we are so concerned about the sex of this chick. The comb is far more developed and brighter than the rest and this one is bossier and gives some real staredowns to one of the barred rocks. This one snuggles in my daughter's lap and...
Just an update. I made a chick chair out of a yogurt container and she will sit in it for awhile but eventually flaps out. She is trying to walk around on her hocks and using her wings and head and seems to be getting better at it but her legs are twisting now. I am thinking about euthanizing...
Thanks, Eggcessive, That it's worth a shot. She's a bit older than that chick. I could maybe fit her in a qt yogurt container. Are their two holes in the bottom of that sock looking liner for her legs?
Wyorp Rock and coach723, thanks a lot for your advice. I am glad it doesn't look like epidemic tremors.
She is very distressed now if I move her. Now she hates the sling. I tried resetting the tendons again and couldn't get anything to move like in the video. I could straighten her leg and she...
Hen Pen Jem, thanks for your reply. I will try giving the apple like you said. I do notice a buzzing when I hold her. That started last night. Like a vibrating and buzzing, I thought she was just cold. She really prefers to be held in cupped hands and doesn't like being left alone.
I tried to...
Thank you. I did have a lot more pine in there but it kept falling out the sides. I will put a towel int here if we put her back in the kennel again. I added some more pics and I will upload a better video. We took that one last night and she wasn't moving much just chirping. The right leg was...
