    Adding to the flock

Thank you. I picked up a new buff orp, and one each silver and gold laced wyandottes last week. They're pretty adorable. Our broilers are supposed to hatch and ship today. Can't wait!

    Adding to the flock

One of our 5 hens passed unexpectedly last night. We have a small order of broiler chicks coming next week, and now I'm planning to pick up another couple laying chicks locally. Can I brood the broilers and layers together? How do I go about introducing the new pullets to my existing flock? I...

Forgot to add, they're both 4 weeks old, hatched the same day. Sourland, that's what I was afraid of.

    sexing EE help

I have 2 chicks from the "ameraucana pullet" bin. I know they're EEs, but I'm starting to doubt they're both pullets. Thoughts? This is Chip: This is Coco:

How do you keep water clean?

I have a half dozen 2 weekers (my first chicks) too, and same issues with them filling the food and water with wood chips. I've been putting in less food, more often. That way when I do need to dump it, there's less food wasted.

    My first feather babies!

I finally named my 2 BRs, Puff, due to her prominent posterior, and Roxie. I like having names for them all! Big Mama is gigantic, like double the size of her "sissies". Do NH Reds grow faster than other breeds, or do you think I have a roo on my hands?

    My first feather babies!

We got our first ladies this weekend. They are 4-5 days now. New Hampshire Red - Big Mama Buff Orpington - Henrietta 2 EEs, Chip (looks like a chipmunk right now) and Coco 2 Barred Rocks, not named yet (my DS(4) is rooting for BeBeBea and MeMeMea, but I'm not sold on that) They're doing great...

    separate coop and run?

Hi, I'm brand new here, no chicks yet, trying to figure out what setup would work best for our family. We are thinking of getting 3-4 chickens this year. I can't let them completely free range because of tons of hawks, but I would like to have a run I can move around the yard. Would it work...
