Thanks everybody, I had a feeling from day one it was a cockerel. Luckily I know where this individual lives and he told me I could bring it back if it turned out to be a roo. Not sure if he was trying to pull a fast one or just ignorant, he seemed pretty new to chickens as well. Thanks again!
I actually returned another one of these birds at 8 weeks because I thought it was a cockerel, the guy said they were all single comb white sussex hens and he got them from McMurray, they all looked like lil roosters to me, but I htough I was just being paranoid, so I kept one anyway, but now...
Thanks everyone. There are so many dogs in my neighborhood, who knows who the culprit could be. I guess my next door neighbor's black labs are the prime suspects. Here's a pic of the newbies I got to keep the soul survivor company.
Three out of my four hens were killed while my wife and I were out of town. Father-in-Law was supposed to be locking the coop at night, but I have a sneaking suspicion he didn't. My brother in law found them in the morning in different areas of my yard, the carcasses were found intact not a...

I live in Plymouth and have had 4 hens for a little over a year now. Does anyone know of a vet that will work with chickens in the Plymouth area?
Thanks,
Adam

Sounds like we're in the same boat. My 2 EE's are 29 wks have had red coloring for a month or more and I'm still waiting. It's a little embarrassing, I have had more than one dream of finding blue eggs in the nest box only to wake up and realize I'm still waiting At least my other 2 girls...
We eventually had to fence off an area for the chickens because not only did our little Cassidy like to eat the poop, but she enjoyed the aroma so much she would cover herself in it, needless to say the chickens free ranging days were numbered after DW had to scrub the pup for a week.
I had some steamed oysters for dinner last night can I grind up the left over shells and feed them to my chickens, or is there anything I need to do to make them edible?
Thanks,
Adam
