    all roosters?

Thanks all. Curious for removing extra roosters do most just harvest or are there groups that take in roosters? My kids look at these chickens as pets so harvest is probably out of the question...better if I give them away.

    all roosters?

lol. My luck. Funny. Thanks for identification. Are you using the more pointy feathers as the clue. They are all bigger then my hens but also vary in size.

    all roosters?

Saw all 3 dark ones crow this morning. The one with white tried to mount hens last week but have not seen crow yet.

    all roosters?

I should have clarified straight run. These were given to me by a friend who hatched a bunch of eggs from her flock.

    all roosters?

I added 4 two month old chickens to our flock back in late June, straight run. We were replacing a couple lost hens. About a week ago I noticed one trying to mount one of our hens but this one was smaller of the 4. This week one of the chickens we were quite sure was a rooster started crowing...

    Rustic coop almost done

Free range but plan on having a run as well for when we need to be gone during day. Size is going to depend on the tree roots in the area but estimating 12'x25' run.

    Rustic coop almost done

Thanks @HenOnAJuneBug. The design is a combination of my previous coop, things I wish I had done after building first coop and some plans I found on Etsy. Items I changed or doing differently from first coop that might assist first time builders: 1) Roost bar at least 15 inches from wall. In...

    Rustic coop almost done

Been working on a new coop in past couple weeks. Was able to find a lot of weathered wood to go after a more rustic tobacco barn look. We moved last year so had to say my good bye to my previous coop, https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/completed-our-amish-style-coop.385281 Built same 4x6...

    Split nest lid design

one idea i had was to build the two separate lids and then place a 1x4 board on top of the crack that would be attached to one of the lids, most likely the nest box lid since it would be opened daily. Caveat is the nest box lid would need to be opened to open the storage lid. other thought is to...

    Split nest lid design

Making good progress on my coop. Its a 4x6 with external nest boxes. My previous coop chickens only used 2-3 nest boxes so planned on making a split nest box design with separate lids so one side is storage and the other side is a couple nests. I have seen this on the larger 8+ft coops and...

    Removing concrete pad

did not want the concrete floor, prefer dirt underneath the coop so it can be part of the run. my previous coop, https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/completed-our-amish-style-coop.385281/, is basically what I am building at our new place but with A-frame roof instead. Only going to do 2...

    Removing concrete pad

previous owner had a 12x20 concrete pad where I want to place my coop. I busted up the concrete using sledge hammer and removed best I could. Was wondering if anyone had issues with broken concrete in run? Some those pieces can be sharp. I plan on trying to get most of it out but doubt I will...

Quote: Top netting is something I have considered. We do have hawks in the area and I have actually seen a hawk carry off a dove in a neighbours yard. It would not be too hard to add. I made the run 6 ft tall so if we did need to add a top netting I could still walk around in the run.
