Wow hat is a big egg! But even your small one is much larger than the little fairy eggs our CLB was laying. I’d love to hear from you when you have fertile eggs or chicks if you’re willing to ship. Thanks so much for all the info!

HELP! Broody hen rejected the incubator babies!

My BO went broody for the first time late March, and at 19-20 days we popped 5 chicks from the site under her. She immediately burst into happy mommy songs and was a devoted mommy, even tho we put them in in the middle of the day. (They were pecking the crap out of each other so we had to)...

Comment by 'helenbk1966' in article 'Brooding with Mama Heating Pad'

I wonder if you could market this as a kit? And make a feathered cover for the heating pad so it's just like a real mama chicken? I am reminded of experiments with baby monkeys. They were given 2 artificial surrogate mothers. A wire one with food and a soft snugly one with no food. They only...

Time between first hatch and last hatch-will be putting chicks under a broody

We had 13 eggs that candles as fertile at day 10-12. 3 hatched yesterday day 21, 2 hatched over night Day 22. Several more have pips. I have read here and elsewhere that you don't want to give up before day 25. At what point do you need to take the first chicks out of the bator and pop them...

Comment by 'helenbk1966' in article 'How to have marital bliss and chickens too..'

Another piece of advice: If you call to cancel an order of chicks make sure you call at least 3 times. Apparently 2 calls does NOT do the trick. The arrive of 6 fluffy ping pong balls that neither one of us was expecting is causing some marital strain.

Do these khaki ducklings look 3 1/2 weeks old?

We got these as freebies from someone who had only had them for 4 days and said they were 3 weeks old. They are no bigger than our chicks who we KNOW are 3 weeks old. When can we leave them out at night?

    Grafted 5 chicks- 100% success !

Flossie was UBER broody for 2 1/2 weeks before the chicks came home. She sat on a pile of ceramic eggs we keep in the nesting boxes to remind the girls where they are supposed to lay. Of course Flossie terrified them all while she was broody so no one would lay in there. We are hoping they go...

Brooding 5 chicks and 5 ducklings together with great success!

That's interesting. I always thought there would be hostilities from any adult hens that were not the mom. My baby Orpington actually jumped high to pechpk the adult austrolorp in the head today and the adult just looked at her like ***? Lol
