    BLUE EGGS ARE CURSED!

Yes! I know! Who would have thunk it? My blue eggs are cursed! Here's how I found out... I'm a newb to raising my own chickens and just this year I started a nice small flock for eggs, blue eggs to be exact. Not that all my chickens lay blue eggs, two lay brown and 3 lay tiny white ( My...

Momma Hen kicking and stepping on her chicks?

I've found that when the hatch date is approaching it's best to "lock up" the broody hen by herself and then no intruders can molest her or her new babies. My brooder box is just big enough for two nice sized nest and has one opening so I close the opening just enough so no one can squeeze in. I...

    My first four!

Update on the new chicks... 3 out of 4 eggs hatched but one chick was attacked by another hen ( not surrogate mama ) and killed The 2 remaining chicks have just followed mama out of the brooder box for the first time and are out into the scary world of the BIG chickens! Mama taking her dust...

    Hard lesson learned :(

Close the door tight on your brooder box! One of my non-broody hens snuck into my brooder box and killed one of my new babies I sealed up the door better now so that will NOT happen again!

Momma Hen kicking and stepping on her chicks?

"One of the eggs i put under the other broody hen has hatched but the broody hen didn't want it" She was probably saying, "Uh, no thanks I have enough to take care of!" Just kidding! I had one of my non-broody hens sneak into the brooder box and steal a newly hatched chick from my Silky! I...

Momma Hen kicking and stepping on her chicks?

Normally cracks mean the worst. Unless they're on the last day or so, they may die. But check to see if they stink. Leave them if they're close to the last day and don't smell yet.

    My first four!

Well technically they're 'experiments' from a friend who has black and white silky stock and other assorted banties she breeds. She told me the hens I bought were purchased from an online live chick seller and from pure Black Silky stock, but who knows? The 'Ameraucana' I bought from her aren't...

    My first four!

I'm proud to announce four recently new additions to my yard bird flock! I'm extremely impressed with my Black Silky hens! If you need great mama hens, get a few Silkies! I have three Black Silkies and two of them have been great brooders so far! I have the four new chicks thanks to one mama...

    Howdy from southern New Mexico!

Found out today that my Arauacana chickens are not Araucana or even true Ameraucanas? The person who sold them to me was told by the seller that they were Araucana, which was a mistake. True Araucana are rumpless and Ameraucanas must have only certain colors to be considered true. It's no biggy...
