This concerns me! I have never seen a raccoon out here in Avra Valley, but I guess they are here, since you've seen them twice already. I wonder if they are staying localized to the Santa Cruz riparian area or do they venture further away from the constant water source?
About two years back, I...
I noticed a few of you are talking of acquiring cattle, miniature and otherwise. Anyway, I have a few beef cattle I need to sell. One is a miniature Hereford heifer, then I have a full size Black Angus heifer and an adult Texas Longhorn cow as well. I can also deliver if you need. If you want...
Gallo, my experiences echo yours to a "T". I thought it tasted VERY bitter & my mouth could feel the alkalinity as i was chewing it! Blecch!
I will say that my chickens seem to eat the leaves if I put some in their coops where they are a captive audience, but they wont go for the...
I know not everybody on this list is able to have a roo in their flock, due to being within town limits or having neighbors within a close proximity. Some of you may have no interest in having roos even if you could. But some of you DO own roos and wouldnt have it any other way, haha! . I want...
Exactly! The Purina Company must think its customer pool consists of a bunch of blithering idiots. I definitely would go out of my way NOT to spend money with a company that treats its potential customers so poorly. What a transparent ruse!
I was thinking that as well. I wonder if they would do special pricing for a group buy? There's a video on Youtube of it, it makes a dramatic difference in the volume of the crow, you can barely hear it. I think this would let a LOT of city folk keep roosters without upsetting neighbors. If it...
I just saw this and have never even heard mention of it before! Has anybody had any experience with this product? I would love to hear "real world" info/reviews of it

I dont doubt you on the carcass hanging thing for RURAL coyotes. But city-fied URBAN coyotes are what were being discussed here. And you cant exactly go hanging decomposing animal carcasses inside city limits and especially not in an HOA.
X 2! I was going to respond similarly to this post, but you beat me to it! The modern coyote couldnt care less about where you pee'd & what your intentions were whilst doing so. You have poultry in a convenient, captive environment & he is hungry & will exploit that fact. They are HIGHLY...
The problem with allowing your birds to roost in the trees at night, is nocturnal predators like owls and bobcats or even feral domestic housecats. You will NOT know the predators are around until you start having birds come up missing. They hunt silently, while you and your chickens are fast...
What would you use for birds that ARE going to be eventually used for meat/eggs? I notice most of the stuff on that site has caveats about use in food animals.
Your birds are amazingly colored & patterned! I am a sucker for the different color morphs of Ameraucanas & I am really wanting to add a few of your birds to my flock. You make me very tempted to unpack my incubator! How late in the year do you still ship eggs?
Truthfully, I'm not doing anything to break them. I just gave in & am letting them hatch a few eggs apiece. I have broodies in nest boxes, dog crates, small animal cages, mop buckets, etc! There is going to be an explosion of peeps here in a few more weeks! I lost quite a few birds last week...
This year I have had more birds go broody than I can ever remember. For the 1st time, I had hens in every single one of my coops go broody, and often simultaneously. Even among breeds not at all known for their broodiness. I too, was thinking this must be some kind of hen conspiracy, LOL! And...
