Arizona Chickens

I messed up on the label, it is w2d3 not w1d3. It has been interesting.

My transition fly wheel thing burned out. It had 18 years of ware on it. My clutch cylinder had a leak, so no clutch. I made it her from Odessa, with 1 stop for fuel. When I came off the road, just blocks from Neal's, I burned out my transition. This is bad, but actually good. You see it was we reign out, I may have had a couple hindered or a few days to go before that would have gone, at best a few weeks, no way of knowing. Most of a job is labor, it would have coast as much to fix the transition as the clutch, but having them both done, it is about 90% less! because they do not have to pull the whole thing out to replace the clutch cylinder, saving labor... A lot. Have to look on the bright side. Old Truck.......... "Send donations To P.O. BOX --------- " :lau

I am going to start a thread for my travels, not to take up space here. This way anyone can fallow me, and as I go to their state. Do not know what to call it any suggestions? I will be spending some time trying to catch up. I will post double if enough would like it, let me know. And I really need a good name for the tread, all I can come up with is "Travels with Chickens" but there is no indication of what kinds of travels... Is that necessary? And I can not put in how long, because I do not know that myself. 2 years is the plan, but as it is I may need to stop and work. It would be wonderful if I could find work helping chicken people that need to hire help with their flocks, such as Desertmarcy, but I would need to find them. Here again all I can do to my prayer, do what I can and let go. It just might happen, just as renting my house to an OCD person. And don't forget, finding a camper the right size to fit my needs.

Things are moving, finally. Buying a bigger place about 10 miles west of where I live now. 2 acre lot, so plenty of room for chickens. Already has a small shop, a haybarn, and a horse corral. Making plans on enlarging the shop for all my woodworking equipment, the corral will become a large chicken run, and possibly put breeders in the haybarn. Probably will build a large garage for my bike and truck. No more working in a gravel driveway! The place I have now is so tiny, I have already built fence to fence.
Congratulations!

So will you be Avra Valley's newest resident soon?

Hi all!  Well I have been out of the loop for a while because my phone(pretty much my main source for the internet)  was shattered  and though it was covered under insurance it takes them  forever to get on the ball.:smack   So  anyway my broody decided as soon as one of the younger chickens nuzzled up to her it was time  to be a momma and abandoned her eggs luckily I caught it in time  (I hope:fl )  and got them into the bator I took all other fuzzies I had in the brooder out to her and she has been a great momma to them:love .   As far as incubation goes today at 12:11pm  officially started lockdown  I candled them and saw movement  in all but one but left it in there just in case. So in 4-6  days we will have chickies:jumpy :jumpy
My Cornish X came in early yesterday morning.  I have a question, has anyone here ever dealt with or heard  of people dealing with Welp Hatchery?  Maybe it  was just my experience but I  have never heard of a large loss of chicks  and I'm sure they will be courteous  but I lost 17 out of an order of 100.  That seems high to me.  Well I need to get home, I'm using my parents computer:oops:    I am 36 and I feel like  I am 14 again  lol.

There is someone on the Louisiana thread that ordered from some place, I think 120 chicks (or 150
?), 51 were still alive when she got the package. It was crushed and the chicks were soaked in dead chick soup. And they were not much better off then the dead ones.

I bought mine March 15th at a few days old so we'll see how far I am behind you with getting eggs. I can't wait. Yum.

Maybe the middle of July... ?
Remember my girl that was laying two tiny eggs, one am, one pm? She is now laying one medium egg per day. I asked my vet and she said she also has a chicken that's occasionally a double layer. I asked her why this happens and she winked and said "over achiever". Wth kind of answer is that?
At least I wasn't hallucinating. Lol

Why not "Travels with Chickens"? Sounds good.

It's good you found a place with so much room! I'll be interested to hear how you get the greenhouse and aquaponic components moved.

The greenhouse will be fairly easy. but.....I have 4 tons of gravel in the grow beds. The grow beds when empty are at least 100 pounds, and kind of unwieldy by myself. Then the sump tank is buried under one of the upper grow beds, once I pull that out, I think that is where most of the gravel is going! Then I have a bunch of koi to keep alive while everything is being moved and set up at the new place. It will be a general PIA to move, but worth it.
