Ah, okay. I'm such a newbie it's embarrassing, haha. Thanks so much. She's probably some sort of mix, then. Her wing feathers are so long and stiff, not something I'm used to. Her rump was completely featherless when we got her and my other chickens who all have tail feathers picked on her...

Thanks everyone, first of all. I have found this chicken easy to bond with. I know nothing of her background. Maybe she feels gratitude, I'm not sure. I raised my first clutch under-foot and they are still more flighty than she is (although they come running to me when I show up, probably...

Edit: I should have specified that I wondered if she could be a rumpless Araucana. On the note of the dog killing one of my girls, I was I was considering getting a dog to protect my flock. Any opinions on this?

Thanks so much for the sympathy. I was probably a little too hurt over the loss of my chicken. This was my first batch, my first loss. I'll try and upload a new photo of Carnelian, our new pullet/hen. I was thinking she may be an Araucana or Araucana mix because she may be rumpless? Or maybe a...

    Virginia

I'm new to this site (I've been looking around for a couple months but I only recently created an account). I just wanted to introduce myself as a Virginian Chicken person. :) I got a clutch of five supposed Barred Rock female chicks in September. One turned out to be a roo, which I guess...

Fabulous news! I was planning on spending special time with her over the coming weeks. I want her to trust me like the other chickens do. Thanks. ^_^

Thanks so sincerely for the really nice welcome! As suspected, it seems two of the three new chickens are male. I already have an established rooster and a very small flock so unfortunately I will be returning these politely to the landlord. I will keep the pullet. She was interesting looking...

I lurked around some more searching keywords and now I think she could be an easter-egger mixed with a Rhode Island Red. Possibly other breeds, dunno, but I see people often associated EEs with a flat or absent or pea comb. :) Thanks!

Ah, thank you QueenMisha. I suspected mixed breeds. The female is most interesting to me. She has pretty much a total absence of a comb. Any idea what breed has that feature? I was afraid the two others were cockerels, dang. Well, thanks! :)

Hello! I am Dominique and I've been poking around without posting for some months. I acquired my first mini-flock some months ago, all Plymouth Rocks. I love them. They were raised in the house with us so they're very sociable. We wanted all laying hens but a male snuck into out order. I'm okay...

My landlord's dog killed one of my Barred Plymouth Rock Pullets. He subsequently put three chickens into my coop. I know one to be a probable male, probably bantam weight, though I don't know the breed. Another I am quite sure is a hen (pullet) but again, I don't know what type she is. The...
