Can we add a stray duckling?

That's great! Definitely a better deal than was offered to us. <insert envious smiley here> Never met, but we do not live very far apart - about 3.5 hours by bus.

Well, not sure, really. Someone here should be able to let you know for sure, though. I know, without a doubt, we have to immunize our chickens. Maybe ask one of the other duck folks and see what they say. SR is great. We just got back from there. Stayed for Khmer New Year. Only 3.5 hours...

Can we add a stray duckling?

Lina, We had a chance to buy a number of ducks at 1,500r (.375c US) each, some time back (March 30). We did buy all of the chicks caged in the photo below. There were 41 of them in all. (I couldn't leave any of them in the cage. I just didn't have the heart to.) I just did not feel like we...

Hi Lina, We feed the chicks regular commercial feed that is sold by the farm supply store, here in Battambang. We feed the chicks the starter feed, and the older birds (1 month +) the maintainer feed. Basically, the feed for the older birds appears to be larger pellets. We also feed them...

One chick walking around with its head hanging down

Hi Eggcessive, Sorry for the late reply. We isolated the chick from the others, as soon as we noticed its condition. But, not long after doing so, we noticed the bird seemed to be doing better. We gave it meds, vitamins, food and water. We kept it in a box in the house over night. The...

One chick walking around with its head hanging down

I realize it isn't. But, it looks as though the little guy has a broken neck. That is the only thing I can compare what it looks like. My wife seems to think it hasn't been eating? This is my first flock, and I really don't want the little thing to die, if I can help it. Please advise,

    Filtering water for my flock?

Now you know one of the reasons I live in Southeast Asia, and have for almost fifteen years, full time. When we built our solar array, we didn't have to deal with permits, inspections and approvals. When we set up our rainwater harvesting, we didn't have to check local laws to see if it were...

    Filtering water for my flock?

Been that way for some time now, in some states. Others, not so much. http://lucas2012infos.wordpress.com/2013/05/02/collecting-rainwater-now-illegal-in-many-states-2-may-2013/

    Newcastle Vaccine Frequency Question

I have 61 chicks. They are 17 days old now. We vaccinated them on the 4th of this month. The farm supply company insisted that they had vaccinated them as well, upon the birds arriving on the 25th of March. The vaccine we used was kept cold, and once mixed was to be used within two...

    Yogurt???

Well, just keep one thing in mind. When it's all said and done, you are at the top of the food chain. So, if you don't succeed the first time, try, try again.

    Filtering water for my flock?

knudsonclucks, how about harvesting rainwater to supply their drinking water? It's not illegal in Texas, and you wouldn't need a huge storage tank to provide for their needs. Just a thought.

Newbie: First chicken accommodations - solar cooling included.

Thanks, Linda. Being my first coop, I wasn't sure how it would turn out. As it was being built, I made some mid-construction-changes. All in all, I am pretty happy with the results. I didn't have all the tools to work with (hammer, saws, chisels, etc.), so I had to buy them. But, even with the...

    Yogurt???

Today marked five days having our first chicks here. They are one week old, today. We tried them on yogurt. Well, I will say I tried them on yogurt, offering it to them in a small bowl. They did not like it very well, and slung it off their beaks onto each other. I then tried setting the bowl...

I truly appreciate your time to look for that, Chad. The problem with some eBay sellers is, they do not always ship to Cambodia, where I live. I have had some items shipped to my little brother's home in California, where he would forward them on to me. However, I typically reserve that for...

The auto (gravity fed) water system still has to be built. I also have another 12vdc fan I can add. But, that single fan moves quite a bit of air across the front of the house. All input, suggestions, criticism welcomed.

    UN SCARING baby chickens

I'm pretty new at this, so I may just be lucky. But, until we finish the chicken house / brooder (hopefully tomorrow), my chicks - 4 days old, are still in card board boxes. When I walk up to them, they have already associated me with giving them food. So, they are stretching their little...

Soooo, anyone have any ideas as to what breeds these little guys may be?

The start of our new flock.

I agree, and I am right there with ya. They have feathers, beaks, feet, and make a "chirp!" sound. That's my limit of knowledge of chicks. But, I feel like a papa again. :D The little yellow one (number 5) is my favorite of all of them.

Thanks so much, if anyone can help me identify these little guys. This is my first time raising chickens, certainly from chicks. I just want to do as much as possible, right. Note: due to the number of images, I set the thumbnails at the smallest setting. Click on them to view the full sized...
