Maybe I'm being a little narrow minded....why would you want to move a breeder pen? It seems like, if on uneven ground, it would welcome attack from a number of predators.
I'm going to apologize in advance for stealing pics...I don't remember who either of these coops belong to, but in the interest of revamping this thread I will post them. If you own these coops and don't want me reposting your pic, let me know and I will take it down. If you do own these...
I'm going to keep an eye on this as well. I've searched BYC for breeder pen threads, and it seems like most of them are too old and don't have legit picture links anymore. I'm getting ready to build some breeder pens and have gotten a few ideas from the regular coop build thread, but it would...
Since we're posting pics of projects (yours are BEAUTIFUL Karen!) I thought I'd post a few of mine. My birds are nowhere near show quality, and I don't ever plan on doing any showing with them, but I do plan on working toward improving their type as well as patterning/coloration. Right now I'm...
Here are my two new acquisitions...forgive the picture quality. Obviously some room for improvement. These are young birds, not to POL yet for the pullet, and the cockerel is about the same age. This will be an ongoing project, and I hope to add several nice black pullets to make improvements :)
I have a few blue mottled bantam cochin chicks that appear to have barring on some, but not all of their feathers. They are siblings, hatched from the same pen, but not necessarily from the same hen...there isn't a good way to know at the moment, and the parents aren't my birds. As a matter of...
Thanks for the response :)
Pepper is out of a bantam cochin pen that contained mostly MF (the standard goldish/black/white), a silver penciled hen, and a partridge MF hen. By cross do you mean not bantam cochin, or not one particular pattern?
Thank you very much Joanie! I haven't made it all the way through that thread, and I also made the mistake of starting at the beginning, so when I went to try and find the people with certain varieties, I was out of luck as they didnt have birds anymore! I think I might start from the end of...
I went to visit a friend of mine yesterday, who has a TON of birds, and spotted this guy in one of her MF/calico growout pens. I had to have him! He does have some white flecks, but not as "radically" as I would perhaps prefer. But, what struck me most, is his overall coloring. Is this guy a...
I'm interested in the following colors, and have browsed through this forum looking for people actively working on them, but I'm having a hard time finding anyone. Can anybody chime in if they're working on these projects in bantam cochins?
-blue laced red
-crele
-cuckoo or something similar
Very nice!
I'm thinking I want to start on a blue laced red project. However, from what I've been reading, finding good quality birds to even start the project looks like it could be difficult. It'd also be nice to work on crele, but, up until now, I've only just had chickens as little...
Meet Little Bit and Pepper, two youngsters that I got not too long ago.
Little Bit - she tends to be quite active and difficult to get pics of.
Pepper:
I'll play too :) I've got some new youngsters that are working on maturing, but they sure are turning out well
First, my more mature pair, Camo and "Camo's girlfriend"...for lack of a better name at the moment
Pepper....what color would you guys call him? Sorry for the picture quality...
With a new year beginning shortly, does anyone have any new bantam cochin projects they are starting up for 2014? If you are continuing with a project you've been working on, what are you hoping to accomplish/work on improving this coming year?
I myself don't have any projects, as we just...
Thank you for the input guys :) There is a small space between the shed and the garage that a person can squeeze through...I guess that would be the best side to put the ventilation on? Any windows or anything else on that side could be open all the time and be totally dry. Both the roof from...
