Hi.
My girl, peaches, has bumblefoot. I think she may have cut it open around the stream where it is very rocky.
I've read quite a few threads on treating it and cutting it open.
I have tried to cut around the scab to lift it out but it just lifts up the edges. Do I make an incision all the...
Checked again and may have seen movement unless it was floating debris. Unfortunately it looks more blotchy- in what you'd expect to see in loss. I'll keep it in and check again tonight and let you know.
Sorry it took so long to upload the babes!
Here are her 3 girls! (Ignore Slim, the black runner photobombing the pic )
Pic below is Mom (golden 300) and dad (mallard).
I chose to hatch her babies because she is extraordinary to me- great egg layer still at 4 years old, agile, energetic, not lazy...
Surprisingly I haven't gotten an email back- I am sorry I don't have any answers for you. They are really great there and definitely give them a call if you have technical questions about her surgery. She was in surgery for a few hours at least. She was the first to go in in the morning, they...
Also- 3 years later and Tegan still rules the free ranging roost here at good duck farm. You can see photos of her on our good duck farm Facebook page.
The vet said she would likely need an implant every 6 months (like a birth control) to prevent her from laying eggs- she has not needed it in...
I am sorry to hear about your duck. I do not know what kind of anesthesia, but I know she was out for about 5 hours. I will email the vet tonight and they'll respond early morning and I will get back to you. If it's any help at all you can also call Kensington bird and animal hospital in...
I use a goat trough and placed wire fence on top of it- no pic at the moment (in bed ) but will upload tomorrow. I initially did it to keep the goats out of the duck food but the only spillage happening is if I'm in a rush to fill it up and drop some on the ground!
My 2.5 MO old female Pekin (peaches) slightly injured her leg a week ago running away from my mallard drake. She is 1 of 4 coming into a new flock and is easily targeted by him because she is slowest.
They are separated of course, except when I let them out to start adjusting to each other...
My male mallard and female golden 300 hatched a few babes Just wondering if anyone else has that mix and can tell me about laying production, appearance, etc.
Yes styrofoam. Thank you! Yes I use white vinegar and hot water to clean everything! But do you clean between hatches? For example, this one is out, but there are two others pipping. Do you wait for all to be out before any clean up? Perhaps another incubator is a good investment under messy...
Also thinking about it now- maybe it is not so bad to let her drag that shell around for a couple of hours? Could help strengthen her legs as she was unable to hatch herself?
Thank you for the help! This is my first and I really did not want to intervene but could not just let it go. It is peeping and head bobbing with an occasional scoot forward and lift of its head. I will wait for the gunk to separate and if it does not by this afternoon I'll do what I can to...
I've helped the duck out of the shell. I realized she was stuck on the membrane and a hardened "string" of membrane was wrapped around her foot and neck rendering her unable to stretch her neck or push her foot out. She is weak but trying to use her legs and looks healthy. However- the yolk is...
