can you use cat litter for bedding!!

I just get the cheapest brand of non clumping unscented clay litter(ex. Tidy Cat) I don't know if they ingest it, but if they do I've seen no problems, and after the dust settles, when I first put it in, I've seen no problems there either. My chicks seem healthy and I've had zero leg problems...

can you use cat litter for bedding!!

I know that this is an old thread, but I thought I would throw in my 2 cents anyway. I have been using clay litter in my brooder with great success. It really cuts down on odor and clean up and so far no ill effects. I have used it for at least a dozen batches of chicks.

100% hatch rate on shipped eggs!

First off, I don't consider myself any kind of expert, but I had lousy results with the hova bator too. I don't trust a hygrometer. I have a good candler and I candle my eggs every few days and take a look at the air sac. You want it to increase in size approx 15% over the incubation period...

    HAHAHAHA I FOUND HER NEST!!!!!!

Keep in mind that while she is sitting she is very susceptible to predators. My neighbor has lost many hens that way. Do you have an incubator? Raising babies yourself does make them friendlier.

    HAHAHAHA I FOUND HER NEST!!!!!!

She looks like a black shoulder to me. If she is I assume you would get some bs and some Ib's. I give mine chick starter. They would probably have a better chance of survival if you raise them yourself.

    BRAND NEW PEACOCK COLOR

I have had to tube feed 3 so far. It seems that some of these little guys just won't eat enough on their own.

2014 breeding season begins, post your results

Ok, I have 4, 9 week olds. I think I have one male and 3 girls. What do you think? I couldn't get pics of all of them (it's raining and they are hiding), but the one on the left is the one that I think is male, and the one on the right is one that I think is a female. The other 2 are like...

They are about 6 weeks. These are my first bs, or at least that's what they said the eggs were. I would love to have some other colors tho, so it's all good. Anyone have any idea what they might be? Just when I think I have it figured out

I'll try to get pics of mine to show the differences when it stops raining. There are definitely clear differences in feather and beak color if that means anything.

I have a wonderful little modern game rooster that is best friends with my green peacock. He is very friendly and begs to be picked up when I come into the poultry yard. I have a little hen too, but she is very tiny, and not quite as friendly, but still likes attention.

    Pea Chick with Eye Problem

I don't think it's eyeworm. He is getting much better. I isolated him from the others for a day and he refused to eat. I put him back in and have continued antibiotic salve. He seems much improved.

I may be wrong, but I think it's a "he" because of the dark feathers on the back and the red primaries. I have 7 bs chicks that are just a couple of weeks younger and 4 of them have no black feathers and no black on the beak. I am assuming that they are the females. Will be interesting to see...

100% hatch rate on shipped eggs!

I'm going to get out the scale tomorrow, but I can tell that he already outweighs the ibs by quite a bit. He's a little chunk! Sadly, I had to put down the little one with the swollen hock. The leg was rotating and he was shaking. I could tell that he was in pain. Not a great experience ...

    Pea Chick with Eye Problem

When I was looking over the chicks this morning I noticed that this one has eye problems. He has what looks to be discharge below each eye. His eyes also look a little misshapen. He seems to be able to see just fine. I don't know if the other chicks have been picking at him, (he is the only...
