It appears the egg buying bug has spread here to Denver, Co. I click not once but twice on some Buff orphingtons and American Dominiques that should be on there way!! Yahoooo:lol:

I feel your pain. I culled a 1wk. old today with splayed leg. I tried the bandaid thing but this just made the chick lie on its belly and thrust both legs behind it. So after due consideration I decided not to raise a special needs chick.

My chickies are 1 week old. I had one after 2days that had a gimpy leg that it could not stand on or tuck underneath its body (it stuck-out perpendicular to its body). So I culled it because it was starving to death(evidenced by its sunken belly and nothing left for egg sac). Well...

yes they were shipped eggs, which took 2 days and was planned around weather. halo packed em REALLY!!! well loads of bubble wrap and each egg bubble wrapped as well.

24 days ago I received 16 assorted eggs from halo in florida. Well here is the report. 5/5 EEs hatch woohoo , 5/5 welsummers sadly one had a leg deformity and could not stand., 0/6 of rock mix (upon eggtopsy 5 were unfertilized (no bulleyes) and one inmature embryo.

When a roo mates with a hen, how long does the sperm stay in the hen? Is the sperm used each mating per egg, or does the hen store the sperm for several fertilizations? If she stores it, how long after the roo is removed will she lay fertile eggs?

For me the cost has been $700. for custom built coop ( I did not want hassles from the neighbors) 3 pullets at $15. 2 50lb. sacks of egg layer feed and scratch. They will never pays them selves off,but they way I see it I will never have to pay $3.29-4.29 for 1 dozen cage free eggs.
