    Why aren't my chickens laying?

Just found this thread from way back and thought I'd bring it back to life. You guys are so full of information that I'm hoping that you'll be able to help me. I had 15 older chickens (maybe 3 years old) and added 18 new hens (all were hatched in Feb/'March this year). the new hens have been...

WHAT DO WE DO?QUICK please !!**UPDATE:PICS!**

Sadly, I've given up on the four eggs I still had kept hope for. It's been two days now and no peeping and no movement. So very sad. I cleaned out the bator today in preparation for the next egg arrival which is this Friday. Thanks for the comments and support. Let's hope we're successful...

WHAT DO WE DO?QUICK please !!**UPDATE:PICS!**

I've heard some can take longer than the 21 days to pip. I still have 4 in the bator that are not pipped (and I know there's a chick in there) and it's day 22. Starting to lose hope now

WHAT DO WE DO?QUICK please !!**UPDATE:PICS!**

I'm in the same position...21 eggs in the bator and only 8 hatched...now on day 22. What to do? Got my eggs from McMurry's...hopefully they're known for good eggs? And as far as taking out the hatched chicks while other eggs are still incubating...you have to expect some humidity to be lost...

Peeping slowing down but still no pip

Update...it's been more than 24 hours now since I heard the chick in the egg peeping. Last night the peeping stopped and this morning still no pip. Should I intervene? I have three other eggs in the bator that could potentially hatch (did a quick candle on them last night and see chicks in...

Peeping slowing down but still no pip

I guess I'd better leave it be overnight anyway and keep my fingers crossed. I did a quick candling and the entire egg was black inside, couldn't see any movement, so it's definitely in the air sack...just waiting for that first pip. Just hate the thought of it struggling. It's so hard to be...

Peeping slowing down but still no pip

I have one egg in the bator that has been peeping and moving most of the day today (day 21). This evening I haven't heard a peep nor seen a movement. I know this has probably been asked a million times, but should I do anything? I hate the thought of the chick suffocating and dying in there...

Frizzle sneezing with bubbles in her eyes and runny nose...

Her face doesn't smell at all...nothing that I can detect anyway. I couldn't find anything in the sticky that specifically referred to bubbles in the eyes. I feel like looking for the symptoms is like looking for a needle in a haystack!

Frizzle sneezing with bubbles in her eyes and runny nose...

Thank you very much...I'm hoping that's all it is. I just gave her the first dose of terramycin. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Frizzle sneezing with bubbles in her eyes and runny nose...

She seems to be acting fine...no swelling anywhere that I can see. Her feathers are always puffed out since she's a frizzle, but they don't look any different than they normally would. Before I brought her in the house, I noticed that she would stay outside even when the temp was close to...

Frizzle sneezing with bubbles in her eyes and runny nose...

It looks like a regular cold, but I wasn't sure if chickens could actually catch a cold. She's constantly sneezing with a little clear discharge from her nose and she occassionally gets bubbles in her eyes. We brought her in the house during the cold spell because we were concerned that she...

    Medicated feed & eating eggs

It was just the run of the mill medicated chick starter. Not sure of the exact medication...the stuff they always give you when you're raising chicks. You still think I need to throw out the eggs?

    Medicated feed & eating eggs

I mixed the layer feed and medicated chick starter that I had left over together so everyone in my coop is eating some medicated chick starter now. Does anyone know if eating the eggs from the chickens that are eating the medicated feed is bad for us? Thanks.

    19 or 21 Days??

Were your silkies hatched in a bator or under a hen? My silkie hen never went broody! I had to put her eggs under a banty! Who ever said silkies go broody at the drop of a hat..mine don't!

I've never tried hatching chicks before

Oh yeah, and just like Chisseig said...you gotta have a rooster in order for them to be fertile!! Otherwise...no chicks.

I've never tried hatching chicks before

You just want to make sure that you put all the eggs in at the same time. It's best to have them all hatch out at the same time. Dealing with chicks of different ages can sometimes be a bear...they are so picky!!

    19 or 21 Days??

Thanks, Andi. I've never hatched them before either, but I know that they're kind of considered bantams, and I think bantams hatch in 19 days. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I'll have the chick feed on hand and ready to go by day 19. Thanks for your help.

    19 or 21 Days??

Does anyone know if silkies hatch in 19 or 21 days? I have nine eggs under a hen right now and just want to make sure I'm prepared for the date of delivery . Thanks!! P.S. White silkie roo and blue silkie hen...I'm hoping for some splash chicks...think it's possible? Thanks!!

How often will a hen go broody

I'm new to the hatching process. In the beginning of April, my silkie hen hatched out 5 eggs. I'd love for her to hatch another clutch now but I'm just not sure how often silkie hens will go broody. Sh's been laying eggs for about three weeks now. I've collected them up until about a five...
