    Finally bought my Chicks :)

Home owner's association :( But it's a win win. She's got a farm and her hens are getting old. We're going to share the eggs. We trade home made goods all the time and now she'll board the new hens and I'll supply the food and some labor at the farm.

    It's that time again....coyotes! Uuugghh.

I'd feel guilty about shooting something that's in a trap. If I catch one running around though, the rifle comes out for sure.

    Cat in the coop?

Section off with screening where you want your chickens to stay leaving an area for the kitty. The cat can help keep the snakes and mice at bay.

What is the best way to attach a hose bib (faucet, spigot, whatever) to a 5 gallon bucket?

Just visit your local home brew store or go online. You can get a food grade bucket with a spigot or you can just buy the spigot by itself. :)

    Finally bought my Chicks :)

Ended up purchasing 5 Barred Rock chicks today. My coworker agreed to board them. I supplied a 25lb of feed and we trade home made wine and beer and home raised beef. Well I'm going to see if I can get a picture of the girls up on here.

I can actually get some chicks

Even though I'm moving to another home in an HOA I can still get some chicks! I have a friend that owns a farm and her hens are getting old. So I worked out a deal. I'll buy 3 barred rock hens (what I want) and a big bag of feed and they can stay at her farm and we'll share the eggs. It's a win...

    Agriculture dept... Mail with threat

Sometimes it's the big food producers (see Monsanto and ConAgra) that want to keep folks from growing their own food without paying them some sort of royalty. They buy Congress and get laws like that passed. Check out the movie Food Inc and see how they destroy farrmers that use heirloom seed by...

DIY HUMANE way to Kill Slaughter Chicken (Stun-kill, Gas)

I was reading somewhere that using the cone and a very sharp and clean pair of heavy duty pruning shears is quick and efficient. Anyone else use that method?

Newly acquired pullets with blood in feces.

Hopefully whatever it may be is not catching to your other healthy chicks. Could be bacterial inflammation of worse. Best of luck.
