I'm so glad I found this thread! We lost one of ours this way last night. Everything seemed fine, she was the dominant chicken, then when my husband went out to put the girls up, she was dead in the middle of the run. No sign of any external stress (predators, etc.) Just dead. I'm sad because...
I am looking forward to this as it is perfect timing for me. I will be bringing a beautiful 2 month old Sicilian Buttercup rooster. I ordered a hen chick, but got the 10% error apparently. I'll happily trade him for a hen. In particular, any of you who have turkens who want to trade, I lost a...
Thanks, y'all! Now that I look at her face, I can see the little poofs like the faverolle has. I'm hoping she's not a roo, I asked for female and ordered from MPC, they tend to be pretty good about it (although I know it's not 100% accurate right out of the egg). Yay chickens!
Hello Everyone! I got 3 new chicks in the mail today. I know 2 of them b/c I requested them, but I got one "assorted rare" and am having some trouble identifying her. I'm thinking possibly easter egger, but figured I'd ask the experts. Thanks!
I got four! A sicilian buttercup, an exchequer leghorn, light brown leghorn, and a turken. I posted pictures on the forum:

(Is it better form to link to another BYC post like this or to repost pics in a thread?)
That is one exposed fowl. And yeah, the little girl's face is priceless!
On more feathered news...MY CHICKIES ARRIVED!!!! I nearly vibrated out of the post office yesterday I was so excited. They're in the brooder, have figured out how to drink out of the hamster bottles (they had some open...
Hi Florida peeps (see what I did there? I love puns, please forgive me!) I'm working on my coop/run designs and would love some input from fellow Floridians. It's titled "Coop inside a run idea" and is in the coop section of the forum https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=505915
My back and forth about the raised or not is this:
On the floor is easier to build with what I have in mind.
Off the floor I don't have to worry about flooding, but is that an issue? It will be on sand and we are not in a flood zone.
Hello All. I'm a newbie and am planning my coop/run. I'm in Florida so ventilation is important, I also want to keep budget as low as possible. Here is my brainstorm, should I rethink anything? I've been reading around the forum a lot and it has been so helpful!
Run: Somewhere in the...
EEEK! CHICKENS! I'm so excited; they should be hatching today and get here this week! I've been great entertainment for my husband as I very much resemble the jumping smiley.
I've had some experience with full grown chickens on my grandparents' farm, but this will be my first go at my own...
Congratulations on your chicks! I'm a newbie and will be getting chicks next week. I cannot wait! I definitely empathized with your excited post CHICKENS!

Well share what you ordered! Of course you have to pot pictures next week too.
Oh pictures will be shared! We are getting all hens (hopefully). One Sicilian Buttercup; 2 leghorns - one light brown, one exchequer; and one "lottery chicken" as we are calling it - a random "rare breed." I...
Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. We decided to do mail order. The local chicks available weren't vaccinated nor could they be sexed. After doing some research on vaccinations, it was just about a wash to just order them vaccinated. We also were able to get some interesting breeds that way...
