She died. I thought it was gapeworm. But it could be aspergillus. The summer garden probably starting to mold. She didn't have any nose or eye discharge. No sneezing, swelling, eye bubbles. She could stand Fri-sun. Just today she didn't have anymore energy. All she was doing was standing. I...
I noticed her gasping Friday afternoon, standing in the same place, not grazing. When I checked her at dusk she was in a sleeping box still gasping. She hadn't eaten, crop was empty. We brought her in the garage and put her in a rubbermaid tub. I googled and got the fenbedazole for horses and...
She seems to be doing well. I've been letting her out with the other chickens from sunrise until about 9 or 10am to give her time to graze. Then she runs over to the coop when she sees me (she's figured out I've been giving her a private bowl of goodies). Then I put her in the coop and close the...
We believe this attack occurred Wednesday afternoon. We've seen a large black and white bird swoop down on 3 separate occasions and all of the chickens ran for the bushes. I noticed her limping this morning so I picked her up and inspected. The photo is her left "drumstick."
The dark brown...
Do you know if she laid for the previous owner? Or the last time she laid? How old you think she is?
My RIRs are on top of it. I wish I had more of them. I just hatched some Australorp and at least one EE-looking one which sadly I think is a boy. I have 7 new puffs and I think 4 are girls. I'm...
1) What type of bird , age and weight.
Not really sure what breed, 15 months, not sure but looks the same size as the other 3 chickens.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
Last egg she laid was Dec 3.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
In the month of Nov we got 92 eggs...
Does anyone know what happened with this chick? I have one that looks similar. One leg/foot is fine. She seems unable to make her other ankle 90 degrees to stand/walk on it. She gets around but does get tired. She hatched Thursday so today is day 3. I'm going to try to make a Q-tip splint...
First hatch. Plastic tub with a clamp-on desk lamp. (as you can imagine, temps ranged from 90 to 111 degrees). On day 18 I covered the tub with a giant clear plastic bag and put a humidifier in the bag (65-70%)
The evening of day 22 I gave up and put them all in the garage to "deal with" on...
If those are 11 weeks than there is no way mine could be 11 weeks. (I've had doubts since I got them at "3 weeks") The one with the giant wattles has been silent. The one in the middle sang me something yesterday. Not at sunrise (thank goodness) but around 9am. It wasn't the typical movie...
She looks like my "11 week" old, Billie! I was told by the farm I bought them from that mine are partridge rock and black "something" - from what I've seen online I think mine are black sex links but I don't know for sure either.
If it's already 15 weeks- I think pullet however, I posted my...
Any thoughts on breed? I'm thinking the lady that I got them from doesn't really know because she leaves them, um..unsupervised? Hee hee.
What about black sex links crossed with partridge rock? Would females be black and gold (or copper?) Is Black Star the same as black sex link?
I found...
I bought my first 4 chicks from a friend at work who sexed them for me and she said all 4 are girls. I think I'm in dire need of 2nd and 3rd opinions. I have pics at 3 weeks and pics I took yesterday at 11 weeks. Forgive me, this is my first time posting pics.
3 weeks upper left to right -...
I've read that you can give them regular garden/box sand. That's what mine have been on for the last 5 weeks. Now they are 8 weeks and they'll get their first real grit this week. The bag I have says 8 weeks. I waited because some of the rocks are just that, rocks. Hope that helps.
I have 4 chickens in an 8' x 3' run attached to their coop but we move it every couple of days. Does that make them free range?
We should invent some new terms like fresh range and wide range. To me, free range usually comes with more risk so we decided enclosed but fresh would be our best bet...
