My chickens which aren't even a year old, I got them in August last summer, had stopped laying. She is a gold star that has been laying since January. It's been laying HUGE double yolkers probably 2 to 3 times a day. I've been feeding it plenty of calcium and she free ranges all day. I have also...
I have two red sex link hens... i had them free ranging when one ran back into the coop and sat on top of the eggs. It was hatched off this august so its about 8 months old. It's making odd noises and is not leaving the nest. Is this possible for a hen to go broody without a rooster? All...
A worm should be just fine... mine were eating whole grasshoppers. Just make sure they have eaten some grit or rocks before-hand to make digestion easier for the 'lil cuties
I'm sorry to hear that... I'm not a vet, but I'd give her a day or two to see if the fluid keeps dripping. I would keep her from eating food for a few hours just to stop the oozing for a while. The last thing you want is for the bowel fluids into her blood, for it could be more serious. For...
I have 2 chickens that are fully grown and live in a 4x4x4.5 foot coop. Lets just say it was a "quick build", because we just needed a quick something to put our chickens in, and it is quite drafty. It's about 30 degrees during the night and 40 during the day. I think that my chickens are good...
Well i had 5 chickens and lost three to my dog. My dog is a wimp, and if i got a rooster, I think that would just make her horrified of my chickens. She's a fixed yellow lab. Am I correct to say that roosters will protect the flock from a dog?
Depends on how much they eat
They have a digestive organ called a gizzard. It uses rocks, grit, and sand to digest their food. It is ok for them to eat sand. They will soon realise that it has almost no nutrients pretty fast and they will eat their regular feed again. By the way... If you ever...
well, it could be a number of things...
1) it may be cold or hot
2) you may not have enough protien in your feed
3) it may have a disease
4) Perhaps there's a torn muscle or broken bone from playing or fighting with the others
5) it may have nothing wrong with it... they tend to be very clumsy...
It all depends on where and how the hay was grown, harvested and stored. I have always used hay, and I love it! By the way... wood shavings are just as dangerous, the bag that i bought had earwigs, spiders, and other bugs in it! EEWW!
This EXACT thing happened to my flock. I had put my hen under a heat lamp isolated from the others. I'm pretty sure it had broken bones and it did not move. I would take out the old chick feeder and waterer and put in reach of the hen, not too close though. DO NOT wash it unless it cut to the...
I have two sexlink hens that have been laying since this winter. If I were to put three more pullets into the coop, what would the hens do tho them? They are not broody nor will they be as I don't own a rooster. I need all the advice I can get! Thanks a bunch!
I bought five red sex-link chicks last fall. Three have "gone through the ringer" with the neighbor's dog. Leaving me with two chickens, one is really calm and fallows me as i walk through the yard, while the other isn't mean, but is extremely submissive. They have been laying since January. My...
