I had a wyandotte that was unjured by a raccoon and she took the ammoxycillin with out a problem after I gave it to her mixed in food a few times. keep it clean and she should do ok
no pic but she seems to be walking kinda of on her toes. I have no idea what she was eating before now she eats laying pellets and I give them fresh veggies, plus they have free range of my yard so they eat whatever they find there too. yesterday I saw two of them catch and eat a frog!
I bought an adult chicken, a black austolop (sorry, bad speller) I think. I was told she was around 2 years old. I know she won't lay much but I just like watching my chickens in the yard. anyhow her feet are swollen at the base of her toes, one worse than the other. but there are no scabs...
it sounds crazy but we have been able to get our chickens out of the trees using a 1x3" board. we just slide it up under their feet, they step right onto it, and lower them down. but it has to be when they're really asleep if you try it too early they just get annoyed.

thank you and she is the sweetest bird. she got attacked by a racoon a few months ago and I had to give her dressing to the bite so for a month she was in the house with us and she never complained. it was great.
and when she was a chick she used to fly out of the box to sit on my lap
we call her friendly chicken but we are not sure what kind she is. she lays brown eggs and is medium sized. can anyone help?
the pic is from when she was about 2 or 3 months old.

the onlly reason I know as much as I do is because I read a really great article on maggots used on chronic wounds. they use them to remove all the dead tissue because they are better at it than the surgeons. they leave all the nice healthy stuff.

I am going to have to get one. I don't have a digital camera though so it's going to be kinda tricky. I think I"m going to try and give her a bath, that seems to be good for most things.
I just got a few chickens yesterday and I didn't take a good enough look at them. one has a walnut sized bump a couple of inches under her vent, it seems warm and is soft, red and seems to hurt her. my first thought is that it's an abcess but since is on her rear end I am worried about egg...
the maggots will not tunnel through to her brain unless the tissues are already necrotic. in which case it doesn't make a difference. maggots only eat dead or necrotic tissue.
I would also tell you to take the kitten to a vet if at all possible. maggots are gross in a wound but not always a terrible thing. they only eat dead tissue so they can help "clean out" all the bad tissue. they have used maggots on people. the only problem with regular maggots is that they...
thank you guys for all your help. actually right after I asked this question I went out to close down the coop for the night and wouldn't you know it he crowed. I haven't heard him do it since, I guess he just wanted to let me know. hehe
isn't he a nice fella?
thank you all again
I think I have a light brahma hen but she seem to think she is a light brahma rooster. I'm not really sure how to tell because she isn't crowing and not laying eggs. she is also trying to mate with one of the other hens. but she doesn't have the typical male feathers or comb. Has anyone had...
i just brought her to the vet to get checked out. her skin is pulled off under her wing, and her thigh is exposed. he suggested we put her down. i could use some advise if this is a good idea or if we should try and heal her? please help
Last night after I very stupidly left the coop open too late a racoon got into it and attacked one of my chickens. Please don't tell me how dumb that was I feel bad enough already.
here's my problem though, during the attack the racoon pulled off some of her feathers and I think her skin. I...
