I know there is probably a high chance they wont survive, but gotta have hope, right!
We are using lime powder. It works well, but we need to bathe our chooks and put down some fresh hay again to make sure they don't come back, or come back as bad.
Hi all!
I've never hatched eggs before, and I can't tell if they're alive!
We had one chook sitting on 13 eggs in in the banana trees, we figured she'd be okay there because there wasn't any hay and didn't seem like there were any lice in there. But there were. The eggs are so far along that...
At about what age do bantams first go broody?
We have a broody on 13 eggs (!!), which are due to hatch within the next week, but yesterday one of our youngest two started sitting on her eggs.
The particular broody lays quite small eggs, so I don't think a baby would be able to hatch from them...
Hi all, I wasn't sure where to post this but I was hoping someone could help me, or maybe link me to a forum that could help?
I found these birds in our banana tree this after noon and just want to know what they are as I have never seen them before.
I'm in Australia, if that helps and the...
I will be! Hopefully they all get to hatching stage, or at least most of them. And hopefully they hatch before I move! I'm moving at the start of October and I want to take some chicks with me, so hopefully a couple of older ones and a few of the new babies
I found another broody! She's hiding in the banana trees! She got off this morning for food so I went look and she's sitting on 13 eggs!! I candled them all 13 have babies in them! The broody that's in the coop is sitting on 6 eggs, not sure how many of those have babies in them though, it's not...
My broody stopped sitting because of all the mites, they got so bad, pretty much over night, we have bought some stuff though so stop them and we are changing the hay. I think we have another broody, if she's still on there when I lock them away, then she's broody! :)
Broody got off her eggs! I'm not sure if she'll go back on, so I took them (they were getting quite cool!! I made an incubator from a shoe box, lamp, glass of water (for humidity) and an old dog jumper thing, which is very warm. The eggs are still warm for now, but what do I do? Should I keep...
Actually, I think they are! I always see these little bugs on her and her eggs! She got back on them, thankfully, but I would still like to know what to do if she does happen to get off again and no get back on.
How do I get rid of the mites?
Hi, not sure if this goes here or in the chicken behaviors one, but anyway,
Our hens are broody for about two weeks, and then they get off their eggs and never get back on. We've had to throw away two sets half-formed chickens, and its happening with the third. These are still warm so if I can...
My broody got off her eggs for so long today I thought she wasn't getting back on! Hopefully they're okay and she hatches them! The last two broodies we had didn't go that far, they got off after about two weeks and never got back on.
I need to bookmark that! Thanks!
I was only using the torch on my phone, the broody only gets off every few mornings when I let the chooks out for a feed.
I let them out every day, but she doesn't come out every day... just thought I'd clarify lol
We free range ours since they're born. We don't use an incubator or anything. We don't even separate the broody chooks, just let them go about their business.
If they come when you call, they'll go when you call them into the coop. I haven't started from 'scratch' with chickens before, ours...
I candled our eggs again today!
Two of them are very dark with what I'm getting is the air cell at the fat end. How big are they meant to be? The ones I could see were pretty big. And One of them, I don't think is fertilized, I'm too scared to crack it open though, in case it actually was :/
Hi all, we have three dogs and they are all fine with the chooks, there was only one time when our youngest dog (about 2 years old) killed a chook, but my aunt snapped him out of it before I moved here and we haven't had a problem since.
Two weeks ago, one of our chooks died, we suspect she was...
