Are these giant brahmas roos or hens?

Their legs and some forward tail feathers say rooster, but their manners, comb and waddles say hen.... I read that the hens don't lay for 6 months, so maybe the roos are super late bloomers too?

Are these giant brahmas roos or hens?

I have two brahma I bought. I assumed they were hens, but now they are larger than my australorp roos. The alpha roo never chases them off like my beta roo. Never see them mount the hens either. Their legs are just as fat as the roos now. are they giant hens or late blooming roos?

This hen is starting to show some roo traits

Just took the roos in to their new forever home in the sky. I chose to keep the late bloomer with the pretty wings, and the strongest healthiest looking roo. I can now name them. How do Elvis and Prince sound?

This hen is starting to show some roo traits

I have an appointment to bring the roos and drakes in this evening. They are tormenting my girls so it really can't wait. I thought I had the two roos I would keep picked out, but this changes things. He won't let me get within 30 feet of him, so I dont think he would make a good guard. But...

This hen is starting to show some roo traits

NOOO! This makes choosing the two Roos I'm going to keep so much harder. He is very skiddish but the brown markings make him pretty and stand out so much more.

This hen is starting to show some roo traits

This chicken has always resembled the hens more, but now I see tail feathers starting to curve and the sharp needle like feathers behind the wings. It is a barnyard mix, so maybe it got some different genetics from the others. It is 4 months old.

    Ducks put themselves to bed?

They are big, loud and may make a stupid raccoon think twice or get me outside in time with the shotgun.

    Ducks put themselves to bed?

I get up at 4 am, so I usually put the quack pack to bed before it gets dark. Today I went out after dark and all the ducks were already in their coop. I was always told this was never going to happen with ducks and was going to let them sleep where they want once my guard geese grow up and I'm...

    Chick with growth on breast.

They eat layer feed since I moved them in with the rest of the flock. The old hens ate all the chick feed. They are all free range and eat whatever is around, but they especially like kitchen scraps. Sweetpea is the only one who is having any problems. She is now in isolation and only has...

    Chick with growth on breast.

I had to drain her crop again. It was full of feathers and sand . I've now put her completely in isolation and am feeding her soft things only until all the junk gets worked through. Now the million dollar question is why I Sweetpea eating so many feathers and sand? Why is so little getting...

    Chick with growth on breast.

Today after removing food and leaving her to rest with only water, I drained her crop. She's been eating feathers.... I can still feel something more in her but nothing comes out. Would it be a good idea to withhold food to do another drain after she drinks?

    Chick with growth on breast.

I put her in a brooder with water and will monitor for now. She is free range and my lot is very sandy, so grit shouldn'tbe an issue. I will add gritt to their food anyway though.

    Chick with growth on breast.

After some more research, an impacted crop seems to be the most likely cause. However, she is still very active and managed to keep a chunk of pizza crust my neighbor brought over away from her much larger siblings. She also comes for scratch grains they like as snacks and eats a lot.

    Chick with growth on breast.

One of my 8-10 week old chickens is about half the size of her hatchmates. I noticed that there is a very large growth on her breast. It seems to be loose and hard under the skin. She doesn't yet show any sign of pain. She is very sweet, so I'd like to save her if possible, but an expensive...

    Neighbor's dog attacking chickens.

Calling animal control was also my last resort which I resisted to try not being seen as 'the Karen neighbor'. Unfortunately your neighbor has already crossed that line by not addressing the problem. He needs it spelled out that he is in the wrong and the dogs can be seized if it persists. He...

    Neighbor's dog attacking chickens.

Things got alot better for me after calling animal control. I think they set him straight that he was actually the one in the wrong. I also greatly beefed up perimeter fencing. If the problem came back I would invest in a large animal trap they sell at tractor supply that a dog would fit...
