    Determining Chick Sex

I was wondering if you could determine the sex of a chick early on by feeling the legs where a roosters spurs would develop. I would assume young pullets would be smooth and young Roos would have the tiniest of nubs. Idk, just a thought if anyone had tried this and successfully determined the...

    Dog bite injury

I need some help. The neighbors dog attacked one of my young pullets. I want to try and save her if at all possible but I’m not sure about wound care. I cleaned and washed out her back with warm water to get debris out, then flushed with iodine solution. I’m not sure what to put on it now or if...

Hen won’t leave the nest after 48 hours

I have a new mother hen, she just turned a year and has 4 new babies. All four eggs hatched, it’s been over 48 hours and she refuses to leave the nest and go out with the babies. I’ve removed and the spent egg shells and have resorted to putting food and water near by since it’s been 90 in the...

Is wing shape a good way to determine the sex of a chick?

I have 12 new baby chicks 4 have the wrong shape of picture one and 8 have the wrong shape in picture two. I was told and from what I read on the internet picture one, the tan wing is a male and picture two the darker chick is a female. Is this setting method fairly accurate?

    Foot Injury

It’s possible she got a touch of frostbite in December, but I really don’t think so. I thought her right foot looked swollen and I’ve been looking after it since late December. Wouldn’t a frostbite injury fall off after about a month? Because now it’s going on three months since I first noticed...

    Foot Injury

Hello everyone, I have a hen that I think has bumble foot but I’m not certain. I’ve been soaking her foot in warm water and epsom salt, then spray it with an anti microbial poultry spray and I thought she was improving, but today I noticed the tip of her outside toe on her right foot looks...

    Severe frostbite on feet

Hello everyone, I’m new to the forum and in my second year of raising chickens. I have a hen that was left out during a cold spell when I went home for Christmas vacation. It was extremely upsetting to find out about on my return. She has severe frostbite damage to her feet. I’ve been caring...
