Separate the bully or the bullied?

Add more food and water bowls around so the pecked on ones have other options. If they are not causing blood you might just leave things as is until the pecking order is settled. Good luck!

I use a heated dog water bowl - worked great last winter. I did place a half full gallon jug in the center so the girls would not perch on the side of the bowl and tip it over. I close my pop door only in the winter but my run is VERY secure. I wouldn't if I didn't trust it.

How to Break a Broody Hen

Yes, I have to figure something else out. The GLW in the picture is one that I just integrated into the flock, it's my BR that has gone broody so she is about the same size. I will add some kind of roost for her too.

How to Break a Broody Hen

Thank you. I will have to be creative and make some thing up for her. I have been closing the coop door during the day but as soon as I get home and look for her she is under the ramp in a pile of dirt with 4 eggs under her (from some of my other girls). They are all fighting a bacterial...

How to Break a Broody Hen

Thank you for the great information. I have a crate that I use to integrate new girls so I plan on using that - I just need to take the tray out and elevate it. The little dishes that I bought that should stay on the sides get knocked off within an hour. I do not have a big enough coop to...

How to Break a Broody Hen

I have a broody hen going on a week. Do you keep them in the dog crate at night too or do you place them on the roost?? Any suggestions on how to make a food dish and waterer that won't spill or get knocked around?

    Oxytetracycline and eggs

My girls have just been put on oxytetracycline for 7-10 days for a bacterial infection, sneezing, coughing and nasel discharge. After the 10 days how long do I need to wait to start eating their eggs again? Also, can I scramble those eggs up that I can not eat and feed those back to them? 4...

Anyone on here having a problem with your chickens sneezing? Since the pollen has been out in full force my chickens have been sneezing a lot - could it be allergies???

    Corn Husks and Turkey Vultures

Thank you for the info. We eat a lot of corn so I just thought I would ask. They love to eat the corn right off the cob raw. We have hawks around but didn't think they would be big enough to grab an adult chicken.

    Corn Husks and Turkey Vultures

Couple questions: Can chickens eat the husks and stringy things on corn on the cob? Second, now that the weather is nice I have been letting the girls out in the yard. I have noticed some turkey vultures flying around. Should I be worried that they will attack my girls?

We are in Warren MA. Ya, it's still in the 30's at nights. I let mine out last year in the run for a little while to get some fresh air too. If you have any other questions this is a great forum, I have learned a ton from all the folk here. These were our little ones at 2 weeks old. Now...

    BYC members in Massachusetts?

Hello :) I am in Central MA too and I would wait at least a couple more weeks before letting them stay out all night - it is still to chilly at night. They can spend time outside (supervised) during the day. Mine were born May 5th and they did not go outside for good until 8-9 weeks. As for...

    Intergrating chicks

Great info about the feed. Yes, they will be in our garage under a heat lamp until they are big enough and feathered out enough. I just added a 6 month old pullet to the rest of the girls with success (after her being in our basement for 2 months). I did the see but not touch method (new...
