Funny how he got to our farm. A neighbor brought him late at night saying he was in their yard acting weird. He thought he was ours because we have all white Muscovys. He had herded the duck to our house and the duck went with him. So I was able to pick him up, which I thought was weird because...
Thank you @Miss Lydia . I have a young male Peking that decided to come live with my Muscovies. Just wondering if it is best to separate until I can find him a few females.
Thank you! Yes, we had planned on finding him some girls of his own kind. Funny how he got to our farm. A neighbor brought him late at night saying he was in their yard acting weird. He thought he was ours because we have all white Muscovys. He had herded the duck to our house and the duck...
Hello All, I have a young Peking that has joined my Moscovy flock. All are getting along. I am wondering if the Peking will try to mate with the Moscovys? Would that be a problem? Thanks! And Happy (almost) New year!! 🎉
Thank you @Crazy Maizie I think he is just playing Big boy and showing everyone who is boss. Funny thing, the other female, although he is almost 3x her size, she lets him know she wants nothing to do with him. He can't get near her! 😄
Hi @Miss Lydia , I know exactly what you mean! I wish I had had the camera because the other day I also witnessed pure ducky love. The parents to all the ducklings were by the edge of the pond caressing. It was so beautiful to see them. The female usually doesn't care for the male to bother...
I am in need of duck sex education. My 21 week old Muscovy is mating already! Is that normal? I read they aren't mature until 6 or 7 months. There appears to be only one drake that is doing it and he only "mates" one of the females. Is there anything I should know? He isn't vicious, but...
I am just repeating what I've been told, and what worked to identify mine: Look at their size- females tend to be much smaller, the legs of the males are thicker, and the tails of the females are more "pointy" at the ends. Your ducks are beautiful!!! I have 17 all whites.
I keep telling myself that because they would have been eaten by a wild animal or gone bad. Their mother abandoned them because of a wild animal yanking her off the nest and she wouldn't go back to them. We are keeping the parents, the females, and one of the drakes that is very protective of...
@Quatie Thank you for the cooking advice. I will tell my husband because that is his department. We have pigs, too, and roasted pork is one of his favorites, so I told him what you said. Taking care of ducks is so much easier and more pleasant to me, but that makes the butching harder.
Thank you for THAT heads up! The females are too young to lay eggs. Thank you for the advise because I have never tasted a duck egg and I wouldn't want my first experience to be a muddy tasting egg. 😄 @ibarbidahl
You got me there. Especially cows in Costa Rica. We are ALL in the mud here, right now. We have three more months of constant rain until Dec. when our summer starts. 😅
