I am in need of duck sex education. My 21 week old Muscovy is mating already! Is that normal? I read they aren't mature until 6 or 7 months. There appears to be only one drake that is doing it and he only "mates" one of the females. Is there anything I should know? He isn't vicious, but... -
Help to Identify Male vs Female Muscovy
I am just repeating what I've been told, and what worked to identify mine: Look at their size- females tend to be much smaller, the legs of the males are thicker, and the tails of the females are more "pointy" at the ends. Your ducks are beautiful!!! I have 17 all whites. -

@Quatie Thank you for the cooking advice. I will tell my husband because that is his department. We have pigs, too, and roasted pork is one of his favorites, so I told him what you said. Taking care of ducks is so much easier and more pleasant to me, but that makes the butching harder. -

Thank you for THAT heads up! The females are too young to lay eggs. Thank you for the advise because I have never tasted a duck egg and I wouldn't want my first experience to be a muddy tasting egg. 😄 @ibarbidahl -

You got me there. Especially cows in Costa Rica. We are ALL in the mud here, right now. We have three more months of constant rain until Dec. when our summer starts. 😅 -

But cows eat grass. My ducks eat grass, too, but because it is rainy season they spend most of their time in the mud.
