Jersey Giant leg and toe issues

Thank you! I'll see what I can find. I agree about the dustiness, I returned a bag of starter because that's all it was!

Jersey Giant leg and toe issues

Thank you for that direction...I've done a lot of reading up on it since you gave it a "name". I'm now trying to figure out what to feed them. They should be on grower finisher at 16% protein, layer is 15%. I've heard that they don't need the calcium of the layer, but also not the growth of...

Jersey Giant leg and toe issues

I saw some improvement when I moved her to a larger area yesterday. I'm hoping with more exercise that she will get a little stronger. I've had crooked toe birds before and they've been just fine. One of my favorites (and firsts) was "Broke Toe Betty", I didn't know crooked toes were a "thing"...

Jersey Giant leg and toe issues

They were a couple of days old and they could've had crooked toes, I didn't notice until they were larger and had huge feet! They are about 3 months old now. I fed them Dumor chick starter until they were 10 weeks old and then went to finisher. I gave them a dumor vitamin and then a rooster...

Jersey Giant leg and toe issues

Hi I recently got 3 JG pullets, two grew really fast, the other and other breeds grew about the same. Then I noticed that the two that grew quickly had crooked toes. Then one day I noticed that they were walking strangely. They are sort of knock kneed and therefore the crooked toes kind of get...

    Jersey Giant Hens w/spurs???

It’s not quite full crowing and different than in past roosters, but definitely different than my other pullets and hens! I won’t be disappointed if I do have a rooster. I just lost my very well loved Cochin rooster...so it may be meant to be. But not 3! Thank you for the information!

    Jersey Giant Hens w/spurs???

I just got my first Jersey girls, I bought them from a trusted feed store that sells a lot of chicks. They’re just about 3 months old and one is making crowing sounds. So I checked for spurs and yep, she has tiny ones. Then I checked the other two and so do they! I seriously doubt that all 3...

    swollen abdomen, spreading throughout flock

I was finally able to talk to the vet and he said it sounds like chylmidiosis (pardon the misspell) and that he will test droppings today. The good news is that it's curable with tetracycline. I will keep you posted so that should you encounter the same situation, you'll have some insight...

    swollen abdomen, spreading throughout flock

Thank you! None of them mention swollen abdomen, but almost all of them suggest treating with tetracycline, which I am doing. I will look for the Amoxicilin too. Do you know if they can take both at the same time. Also, I am considering giving them ACV to replace the probiotics being killed...

    swollen abdomen, spreading throughout flock

Thank you! I will read the articles. Mine are a mixed flock, but they aren't overweight. They eat layer rations, and any leftover fruit and vegetable trimmings that I have. That's pretty much it.

    swollen abdomen, spreading throughout flock

Thank you for your advice! It's pretty much what I am doing right now, but confirmation is always good. I can't get the exact products you recommend, but I have gotten the best substitutions that are available here.

    swollen abdomen, spreading throughout flock

Week before last one of my hens was acting very lethargic, when I examined her she had a very swollen belly. I treated her like you would for an egg bound problem, on the advice of my vet. When I got nowhere, I took her in. He thought it was liver disease and I treated her as he advised and...
