    The puddle dance

I saw one of our ducks doing that a couple of weeks ago - never seen the others do it before! It was so cute and funny, like a little dance!

    DONT splash the duck!!!

I also wonder why... mine hate it when I point the hose anywhere near them, let alone spraying it! They love the water usually, and go out during the rain... it's just the hose they are terrified of! Glad I'm not the only one who has this happening!

How do I tell what gender my ducks are?

Depending on the season and type of duck, if they are drakes they will grow a 'curl' on their tail feathers. Girl ducks have a loud quack, whereas boys tend to make quieter 'chattering' sounds... it's what ours do, anyway!

    My duckling follows me!!!

We kept our ducklings inside for a while as we hatched them with an incubator... they followed us everywhere! As soon as someone stood up to go out of the room, they were guaranteed to have a little duckling running after them cheeping like mad! You have to be so careful where you stepped, as...

    Duck body language?

Our two females do the head bobbing thing all the time! Thing is, the do it when they are together as well as when they are with the drakes, and did it before we even got the drakes! It looks like they're chatting to each other when they do it They also (all 5 of them) stand still and put their...

    Strange noise????

One of mine (a drake) makes a weird sound similar to the one you described, with a bit of whistling in it for good measure it's really odd, he's not sneezing or anything, it's just a bit of a funny noise... i don't think it means anything (bad) though. He does it when he's sitting down...

Duck diaper harness for medium sized duck wanted

I'm looking for a diaper harness for a medium sized duck. Preferably purple, but I'm happy with white too If anyone knows where I can get one or has one that they are selling, please let me know - I'm from the UK and most of the sites selling these are US sites with the price in dollars - it's...

Is this normal for a rabbit?

We are looking after a rabbit for some friends until they get their new house with a garden for it. The rabbit has previously had myxomatosis a while ago but (obviously!) survived. At the moment, it is running around the run and generally going a bit mad at night - we can hear him banging away...

I'm about to kill my drake....rant

We had to separate off various chickens/ducks a while ago because they weren't getting on and were either attacking or constantly trying to mate with each other. We built new runs for them, and I think this is the only long term solution... in your case, I think its probably best to get a new...

    Picture of my roo.

aww he's lovely! Our cockerel (who unfortunately no longer lives with us due to the noise ) acts tough and likes to protect his ladies, but once you pick him up he's such a softie and loves a cuddle! Here's a picture of him: he's called Thor, and is a white crested cuckoo Polish (the hen behind...

    Strangest and Silliest Chicken Names?

We named our chickens after various mythological people/gods/etc... we have 3 hens, Zeus, Atlas and Cronous (Athena died a few months after she was born) and a cockerel called Thor. We named some of our new babies Sita, Hermes and Domestos... so yep, very strangely named chickens!

To clip or not to clip wings

They are too young to be clipped - try raising the sides of the fence... we put netting over the top of our chickens' coop. They don't really fly far though, as they know where they're being fed etc.! You can clip the wings if necessary when they are mature.

Chickens and ducks!?!? Question for ducky people

We had two older chickens, then were given two ducklings... they grew up with the chickens and all got on fine. We have since hatched some ducks and chickens around the same time, so they shared a box and brooder etc when they were born - they got on fine. Ducks don't cope very well alone so...

    duck eggs???

Ducks in general are sexually mature from 6months+ and lay eggs from then on too... not sure if it is the same for all breeds though. If your ducks have a coop/house, the female will probably lay in there if that is her 'comfy place' where she is happy to sleep at night etc. Our ducks usually...

Post your favorite duck breeds here!

I don't think there is actually one breed I can say are my favourites... I'm just a little too obsessed with ducks in general I do however love cayugas, wood ducks and mandarin ducks, especially the white ones. Silver appleyards are pretty nice, too.

Please Post Your Funny Duck Pictures!

Quote: What breed is that? I have one that looks just like it, I have no idea what breed it is. She's a cross between different breeds... one duck is all white but not entirely sure what breed, the other male duck seems to be a mixture as no one is able to tell us what he is! So she's a...

    shivering ducks

Is it more of a calm shivering or a vibrating? When our ducks get scared, they tend to make a vibrating feeling. If its more of a shiver, I suppose its down to excitement - like a cat's purr, as someone mentioned

Muscovy ducklings gender help? Pictures included.-NEW pictures 8/17/11

Generally speaking, we found our males are much quieter than the females - they 'chatter' rather than make a loud quacking sound. Their tails went curly during the spring and early summer months (although the curl fell out later on). As far as I know, not all males are larger than females - it...
