Generally speaking, we found our males are much quieter than the females - they 'chatter' rather than make a loud quacking sound. Their tails went curly during the spring and early summer months (although the curl fell out later on). As far as I know, not all males are larger than females - it depends on breed etc. Quite difficult to tell though when they are very young ducklings!

We're talking muscovies here though. those would be malared derived breeds that tail curls and are loud. In muscovies the males are about twice the size of a female (12-14ibs compared to 6-8ibs)

The gender on scovies are so hard to tell when they are little ducklings the best is just guessing till they there juveniles 3/4months of age look at there feet, the ones with huge mungo feet are normaly the drakes. thats how I guessed with mine. Had 7 ducklings and I guessed 2 out of 3 that were drakes. good luck!

I am positive that I now have a pair. One of them has grown much tall in what seems like days.. lol. The other is smaller and more delicate looking. The little one is now making this chirping purring noise. However the other makes noise too. Kind of like a paint maybe? Like a hahaha.... Is that normal?

yeah that is what happens the drake will look like it got a hold of steroids lol and the hens take on a rather feminine appearance. The drakes hiss and make a few others noises.. deep chortling..
