I am no stranger to BYC but have had a hiatus of several years and am just getting acquainted with the changes here.
Living in the high mountains of Colorado, I have had a small flock for 20ish years....daytime free-rangers. Norwegian Jaerhons, Ameraucanas and a few bantams.
I also raise...
I am keeping an all-Ideal originating flock and established my spring breeding group 2 weeks ago, so I am beginning to offer hatching eggs now. Please PM if you'd like to be on my list...
Entirely grain-free for a few months, minimum, is so helpful. Iams is not my choice of foods. There are much better choices that emphasize quality meats and animal fats over grain. Remember that items such as potato and sweet potato are usually added to grain-free foods but they are "not meat"...
After 8 years with these friendly birds, I thoroughly love and appreciate my Norwegian Jaerhon flock!
They have been very winter-hardy here in the high Rockies. Active, alert and able to fly, which gives them good odds of getting away from predators. I free-range my laying flock in the woods...
I really, really love my Norwegian Jaerhons!
They have been very winter-hardy here in the high Rockies! They are active, alert and able to fly, giving them good odds of getting away from predators. I free-range my laying flock in the woods surrounding my mountain home, this has indeed been a...
I have (8500' elevation) Norwegian Jaerhon hatching eggs available. Can sometimes deliver on Western Slope. And I will be traveling to Denver area next week.
I'm offering started Norwegian Jaerhon chicks for sale ~ $12 ea.
I *really* love my Scandinavian flock! They are wonderful foragers on our high Colorado forest farm, just a very hardy cold-climate layer. Being a light-weight, agile and alert breed, they are talented at evading predators...
I wouldn't do a dry hatch at altitude. I'd use humidity because, at least if you are getting eggs from a lower altitude, the shells will be more difficult for moisture to penetrate from the get go, so you will need to supply it abundantly.
I love my Norwegian Jaerhon flock for many reasons!! They are excellent free-rangers on our high altitude Colorado forest farm and seem to enjoy winter. They lay well 3 seasons and often give eggs during our deep winter, as well.
I love that they thrive with foraging for the main part of their...
I'll put you on my list and try to give you a week or so "heads up" when I am getting ready to collect/send them to you. I charge $35/doz, Priority Mail shipping incl.
Hope your spring is quicker to appear than ours!!

...The concern with the light color (sans tan, just white and grey) is that one of the "plusses" with Jaerhons is the color sexing at hatch and it *may* not be as easy to sex the chicks in the light version as it is with the dark ones. Do others have a more clear experience in this regard? Do...
