    Split Belly

She was doing great until yesterday. I don’t know what happened, but she didn’t pull through. She appeared to just get weaker and weaker. It’s probably for the best. It wasn’t healing up quite right. 😢 Thanks guys!

    Split Belly

It does look like that! I just don’t understand how that would happen in the incubator! I’ll have to really look it over after everyone is out! I’ll see how she’s doing in the morning after a round of nutra-drench.

    Split Belly

I did! She happened to be first one I pulled out. Thought about immediately culling, but she was walking around, went to the food. I’m shocked! So I moved her to a space with a towel inside the brooder, but separate. It looks like it may be closing up. So I don’t know what happened! 🤭

    Split Belly

Have you ever hatched a chick that looked like this on the belly? I have no idea what to do! She seems fine in every other way! I don’t know what to do. What would you do!?

Wrong End While Another is Pipped

So, I decided to dampen a sponge with warm 100 degree water. We made sure no other eggs were pipped. I opened the lid placed the damp, warm sponge over the guy that’s about to unzip. Peeled the egg shell off (it fell right off) the one pipped at the wrong end. I didn’t see a hole in the white...

Wrong End While Another is Pipped

When do you assist? I’ve read through all of these, but I’m so nervous to hurt or kill the one that is currently in progress with no issues. So, does the one pipping at the wrong end need help? Or wait? It pipped about 4.5 hrs ago. I haven’t seen it move at all. It’s a very large egg. I know...

    Cristina, saying hello! 👋🏻

I’m getting $3/chick. But the market is hot right now at that price. I could probably get a bit more out of them. Not trying to make a profit (though that’s good!) - just wanting them to go to stable environments.

I’ve heard of chicken math! 😉 I’m sure it won’t take long and we’ll end up with an acre of chickens! LOL! My brother told me my addiction could have been worse...I guess he doesn’t know chicken math yet. 🤣 Congratulations on your hatch!

    Cristina, saying hello! 👋🏻

I have hatched the mix from my flock. I’m super excited with being able to do so! We are selling them (well, have sold) after looking at our local legislative requirements. It’s been a smooth process, for the most part. 🥰

Yes! It is just that - a marathon. I was so crazy with these 12 and now that 50 are on the way (in 4 days), I’m sure it’ll be another learning experience. 😳

    Cristina, saying hello! 👋🏻

    (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I’m about a year in. (2) How many chickens do you have right now? 16 - Well actually 78. But 62 are either about to hatch or recently hatched and have forever homes somewhere else. 😬 (3) What breeds do you have? RIR (hens)...
