    Second Generation Sex Link questions

I've thought about that and honestly he's not the only one I've seen in pullet bins, I just wasn't in a place to buy more. I live within a half hour of 4 TSCs and 1 Farm and Home store and seen a few in different ISA Brown bins this year alone and I'm pretty sure I'll find the same next year...

    Second Generation Sex Link questions

I've already asked this once but the more information I read the more I want to know! I saw a post about 3rd generation Isa Browns being White and sweet and 3rd generation BSL chickens being a form of barred and not very nice but I want to know if anybody's crossed the two? I have one Isa Brown...

Do eggs die if they aren't sat on for 2-3 days?

I had 7 eggs under my broody and they've been growing but 2 days ago she stopped sitting on them and won't go near them. I collected them but I don't have an incubator. Another hen went broody tonight though and if they are still able to be saved I'll put them under her tomorrow. Here's a...

What killed my chick and how did this happen? *Graphic images*

Thank you, after talking to some other byc members earlier and looking up pictures I have learned a lot and I agree with what you said, I'm very sad about it but I can't blame the little chickies for instincts.. I didn't even know that was a chicks instinct, our first round of chicks last year...

What killed my chick and how did this happen? *Graphic images*

I just walked out to feed and water the chicks and found one of our black pullets faced down and buried, literally, the chicks kicked up all of the shavings from one spot and covered her. At first I thought maybe they trampled her to death or something, she was one of the bigger ones though...

What would be the outcome of a Red Sex-link rooster mating a Black Sex-link hen?

Okay, thank you. That makes sense, I was wondering how it would look/work. At any rate I hope they'll be cute. Another question is even though they are developed and sold as laying hens, I've heard the next generation down aren't as good of layers and was wondering if they'd make okay meat birds?

What would be the outcome of a Red Sex-link rooster mating a Black Sex-link hen?

Pretty! Thank you! Here's another question though, would you still be able to sex it based on color or...?

What would be the outcome of a Red Sex-link rooster mating a Black Sex-link hen?

Just curious. We have red sex links, black sex links, and possibly amber links. Out of those we have only one Red sex-link rooster, so what would the chicks look like if he mated the black sex links or the amber links?

How long does it take a wet chick to dry?

Okay I'll put him back in the brooder, thank you guys!

How long does it take a wet chick to dry?

We tried that but it only seemed to freak him and our dogs out.... my dogs are currently in the other room and aren't very happy that my "top" is chirping... I worry if they start barking again they'll scare the poor baby to death...

How long does it take a wet chick to dry?

On of our little bantams had poo stuck to his butt covering everything and it room quite a few minutes of soaking and gently wiping to get it off and he could finally poo again. Now he is drying inside a dry washcloth inside my shirt. He is drying though he's still not very active he's let out a...

    Silkie thread!

Thank you! I might have to wait till next season. Right now the chick brooder we made is in the in laws garage and they weren't exactly enthusiastic about us getting more chicks lol but if I can find some and convince SO/in laws then I will try to get some! And your silkie is gorgeous! If I can...

    Silkie thread!

I've only seen silkies at our local stores once and that was last year when we got four, I was hoping to get some silkie eggs somehow and put under her next time she goes broody and then she can raise some silkie babies but I don't want her to have silkie/sex link babies. Especially since our...

    Silkie thread!

Your silkies look amazing! And hmm I'll have to see if the farm store has any silkie pullets. I definitely don't want another silkie rooster unless it has the same temper many as our first chicken king. He was the sweetest which is why I truly believe he sacrificed himself to save the other...

    Silkie thread!

Oops I do have an updated pic, but this is before we've started "chicken construction" for it. The white building behind would actually work as a 4th coop if we needed it too.

    Silkie thread!

Oh I plan on it! I'm so excited for it! I've been looking at so many pictures on Pinterest for ideas! Though the coop we have now was built for the family chickens it's still my in laws and they had all say in its design, which I don't mind as they paid for it and built it but this time I get to...

    Silkie thread!

No. Our first round of chickens was last year, we ended up with 8 sex links (1R and 7H) 4 silkies (2R and 2H) 4 RIR (2R and 2H) and 3 bantams (1R and 2H) well we ended up losing 1 silkie R, 1 silkie H, and 1 RIR H one night to coons last year. They're all currently in one coop and our remaining...
