Yeah sorry, I work for a goose management company and right now I'm going daily to a site with a swan, a Muscovy, African geese, and some other ducks. Luckily I am successfully teaching them that they are not my targets, but they don't seem to mind the Canada geese at all. And you're right -...
Old thread I know but thanks all for the info! Currently dry-brining our first home-raised chicken (a 5.5 month old Swedish Flower cockerel) and I'm excited to slow-roast him and make stock. Maybe I'll learn to make myself some healthy soups finally lol.
In case anyone was curious, the processor said everything inside looked normal, but his vent was malformed and kind of "sucked in." He's in the freezer now, so he won't have poop freezing onto him this winter.
Hi, I am taking 8 cockerels to be processed tomorrow (4 lucky ones found homes). I hatched them in June. One Swedish Flower cockerel has had chronic diarrhea since a day or 2 after hatching. None of the others have ever had a problem. He doesn't seem to be able to regulate it; it just kinda...
Yes thanks! Early this morning the Meyer site said out of stock, and I emailed and was told it was backordered with no known restock date. Then after I found the same at every other site I checked Meyer again and it no longer says out of stock, so I placed an order, sent another email to double...
@darrel99 I accidentally dropped an electronic thermometer into boiling water, but I already had the incubator running empty so I turned the humidity way down and put the thermometer in there overnight. It dried out nicely and still works. :)
Oh and P.S. if you accidentally drop your electronic thermometer into boiling water while checking its accuracy, the empty incubator is a good dehydrator...
The Ovation 28 EX. Was on sale on their website, plus code "whisper" got me another 10% off. I decided it was worth it since I can't be around to watch it all the time. I seem to actually be working a lot of overtime right now, and so far the Brinsea is living up to its reputation. Just set eggs...
Are geese supposed to go 28 days or am I making that up? I personally would lean toward giving them more time if they're only one day over, but I am obviously no expert! Good luck to you!
Who knows chicken color genetics? If the eggs I just gave to my broody actually hatch, there could be Mille Fleur D'uccles (my only rooster) crossed with a spangled OEGB hen and a black bantam Easter Egger, as well as 2 Mille Fleur D'uccles hens. I'm guessing the EE is just going to be a...
I bought a thermometer that has a nut for calibration and I used the ice water method. No problem. Then my incubator arrived and the calibrated thermometer said it was way off. I was surprised that a new Brinsea was so far off, but I figured I'd try my cheap digital kitchen thermometer. Since I...
Yeah sorry I meant the 56 is only about half full. I'm debating whether to put my incubator in the basement with steady but cool temperatures and a bit more ambient humidity versus an unused bathroom upstairs with no exterior walls. I could close a room in the basement and add a space heater if...
