Two of my Silkie girls are broody! My partridge Silkie is broody for the first time and she is only a little over 6 months. She had only been laying for about 2 or 3 weeks before she went broody. My other hen is about 10 months and this is her second time to go broody but I didn't let her...
Thanks for the comments everyone! The girls are still broody so I am thinking I might buy them some fertile eggs. I wish we could have a rooster but they wake everyone up because the coop is so close to the house. Our last rooster was getting up at 4 a.m. so it just did not work out.
Here are two of my silkie girls with bows in their "poofs"! Gotta love silkies. Let me just say they were not very amused! They both decided they want to be broody now though. But since we don't have a rooster there are no chances of the eggs hatching. So I kind of feel bad for them.

I am having the same exact problem! My drakes mate passes away from an unknown cause two days ago. We have no idea what happened to her, she was very healthy. So, now we are on the search for a friend for "Sunny", but no luck so far. We are willing to drive an hour or so. I feel so sorry...
We have a lonely Indian Runner drake that needs a couple of buddies. His duck friend died yesterday from an unknown cause she was very healthy then all of a sudden passed away. Needless to say, "Sunny", her mate is very sad without her. We would like 2 hens because we think it would be easier...

Thanks! I ordered 5 Silkies of all varieties, 2 Cochins one buff and one barred, and 3 speckled sussex. They added 6 barred rock "males for warmth" though. All of the chicks are doing really well considering the heat. I knew it would be a risk ordering this late but they are doing...

I don't have a clue about incubation, sorry. You should try posting it in the incubating and hatching eggs section. Hope you find out what to do!
