Help please, we have 6 hens and one of them is just getting beat up all the time, the other hens have pecked out her feathers on the back of her head and on her shoulders... I need to do something but I don't know what to do
We brought him back inside!! We foolishly thought that after 3 days of being next to each other that I could let them all out to forage together and maybe they would all be friends... Well the mama hen attacked the baby... He is ok but now I have no idea what to so with him/her...
That's what we thought, we put him in a cage in the coop with his mom and brothers and sisters but they all just peck at him and try to get him in the cage!!!
When can you tell and how can you tell?
also I have one baby that hatched after everyone else and mama was ignoring him/her, I pulled him out of the coop and brought him in, fed him sugar water and kept him warm and now he is perfectly fine, except mama hen still hates him!!!! She attacks him...
Well we have 6 fluffy babies out in the coop with mama! She loves them so much! We had one extra baby hatch about a day and a half after the others, I had to pull the egg of her and bring her inside, she was just laying in the nesting box and mama was ignoring her and playing with the 6 other...
I am so excited!!! So far we have 6 fluffy chicks, 1 that just hatched and we have 5 more intact eggs and 2 eggs that look kinda crushed :( but my mama hen is being very protective but she lets me come in and pet everyone!!!
so now I have some questions... What should I do next... How long...
One of my hens has a messy dirty poopy butt, any suggestions? She is big and fat and healthy other than her butt feathers... No blood in her poo either...
Well we are leaving her alone, we decided to take a peek in the crushed eggs... I wish I hadn't, poor baby chickies were in there :'( however I now do have hope that some of the eggs will hatch!!!!
The eggs that my girl is sitting on are green... I don't know if that makes it harder to see anything... When I look at an egg from my girls (not fertile) and candle it with the same flash light it totally lights up
I finally got my broody hen off of her eggs, only to find that the other hens have been laying eggs in there too and some of her eggs have been crushed, I pulled out the other hens eggs and the crushed ones then set her back on the eggs, I did manage to snag one for candling.... It has a good...
Well I saw some dark specs but no squiggle lines and it looked like there was a bubble in the egg... I put it back just incase but my fear is they are all bad :'(
She went insane like 4 weeks ago and started refusing to get out of the nesting box... So 7 days ago we got her some olive green eggs to sit on... Fingers crossed a few of the 16 will hatch and be girls! No roos allowed where we live :/
thanks for the help!!
should I candle the eggs??
