Killed a possum this morning just a few steps from the chicken house. Chickens didn't stray from the house at all today. Told John I need to learn to use the 22, I can use a shotgun, but I think it was stolen a few years back, I did get nine eggs and that surprised me. I was missing a hen last...
I haven't been on all summer so guess I will play catch up. It has been busy here, John had back surgery on May the 8th, day after his birthday. He is doing fine, still getting around slow. He decided to have his hernia fixed that he has had since childhood as he couldn't do anything...
My second batch of eggs that the hens quit sitting on didn't make it. I took 10 of my babies out a couple of days ago, then put them out in the sunshine today. Have 2 little ones that are to small to go out yet. So far the bigger hens are keeping an eye on them. I think I have 3 baby roosters...
So far the little chicks are taking care of the eggs. They are even moving them around, we are misting them. I have two roosters in the batch and just waiting for them to start crowing . Guess we will just wait and see what happens this weekend.

If you was closer to me, I have 14 eggs that the hen decided to quit sitting on today. They have only a week to go. Brought her and the eggs in the house, put them in cage with her 3 week old chicks. She just wasn't interested, so we put her outside. Now the little chicks are all taking...
Well, my mama hen decided today that she was tired of sitting on eggs. We brought her in the house with the eggs and put them in the cage. She tried to get interested, but was more into pestering the chicks. Took her outside and let her loose with the others and she was happy. Have the eggs...
They are all doing great. One little chick had his beak open tonight trying to crow. My daughter brought me 2 half Chihuahuas puppies (about 5 weeks old) to go with little Harry tonight. She thought it would be a nice anniversary present for us to go along with all the chickens and chicks...
Worse yet we got home from town this evening and couldn't find her anyplace in the cage. Talk about an all out search, finally found her between the cage and stove (small heater blowing heat in cage) where she got out. Later she was out of sight again and was sleeping outside basket where we...
Had one of my Feb. hatch eggs made it out after we brought them in Sunday and hung them over the wood stove. Today I thought I heard peeping, then later John heard it also and stronger. Sure enough he looked and it was pipping out, first time we got to watch. . After the poor little thing...
Welcome to the thread, I am fairly new here too. I started with a few chickens last summer. I now have one rooster, nine hens, 11 new hatched chicks in the living room. The mama hen is on 15 fresh eggs due to hatch around the end of the month. I think my little pass time became an addiction...
Cleared a path to the door of the chicken house, made sure they had water and feed this evening. They didn't offer to go out, our little dog made his trip out since there was a path. Will be glad tho have better weather later this week for them. On the bright side for today I have a new great...
Our house is right outside the backdoor, the porch and chicken house are all fenced in. I let them out during the day, but keep count off and on all the time. I call them and they come running to see if I have something.

We took out the ones that didn't hatch, but are keeping them nested over the wood stove to stay warm. Then put fresh eggs under her for the March hatch. She seemed happy with the new eggs and was placing them. I took a picture of the little girl with the bigger ones from a week ago and there...
One more hatched, but didn't make it. Will check them in the morning and see how they are doing. So far the ones in the house are doing great. Have found their wings and learning to groom themselves. So much fun to watch.

One of my duds hatch during the night, so maybe the rest will hatch today. Brought her in and the bigger chicks are taking care of her. Yeah!!!

Well I just hatched 10 eggs the natural way in February and they are doing great in the living room. My hen is still settling on 7 duds and we are leaving her there until Sunday and removing them. Been saving my little Banty eggs going to replace then duds with these and one huge egg that one...
Of the 8 eggs left under my nesting none are hatching so we are waiting until Sunday( my best friend's birthday) and putting fresh banty eggs under her. Have one huge egg that won't fit in an egg carton and going to let her sit on it to. Think it has to be a double yolk egg. By the end of...
I am sorry to see that some have lost some little chicks and glad to see that others are making it. We have 10 thriving in the house. My son had a large dog cage that we put in the living room and we watch them. We found one of the 11 eggs that didn't make it. Mama hen has 8 eggs under her...
We brought our 10 chicks in to feed and water them. The mama still has 7 egg that I didn't put under her to hatch and she has settled right down on them. Our Little Harry is chick sitting for us and is fascinated by the little chicks. I had to take picture of him. Told him that was about how...
